Not your typical service question :)

Hello, I have an '08 997 that's due for its 2 year service (and brake flush). However, looking at the maintenance items for both the 1 year and 2 year services in the manual, it seems that you get the same services (oil change, inspection, test drive, etc.) The only thing that's different (that I don't need b/c my car only has ~8000 miles) is the cabin filter replacement. Of course, the brake flush is an additional item I'll have performed.

So, my question is this: can I schedule a 1 year service instead? This usually cost less at most dealerships, so why pay more?? And, it looks like the services performed are identical to the 2 year service (with the oil change being the most important). Is my booklet going to be denied its 2-yr stamp and does this affect the warranty?

By the way, I searched and couldn't find any similar topic...

Thanks for any help,

AK

Warranty wll not be affected if you document all work you did outside of the dealer for your routine checks but if you are on a lease program you may want to check if you are obligated to get it done at dealership or not.

If you do own you car it should not play any significant role. As usual I would call a service manager and ask him that - they can talk, you know.

I think that not replacing the cabin filter shouldn't affect your warranty. And since you are having the most important part of the service completed (the oil and brake fluid changed) they should not have issue with stamping your booklet.

I didn't even schedule my 2 year service at any dealership. I called RSS/Stuttgart Performance and had them do the oil service, brake fluid flush, and they can do the cabin filter as well. It'll come out cheaper than the dealership, and as long as you keep all your maintinence records, warranty cannot be denied. BTW, if it applies to you, my car was a lease, and initially the inspector was going to charge me $800.00 for not having any stamps in my maintenance book, until I showed him my binder of invoices and service records, which he said is completely acceptable as long as you provide proof of service.

Why not call a few dealerships and see if they can do the two year service at a price break ? Many offer summer discounts and often times the coupons arrive in the mail.

Thanks for the help guys. I really appreciate your responses. After reading through the various threads on servicing, etc., it does seem easy to perform a DIY oil change and all, but some here have made good points that letting a dealership do it will foster good relations with PCNA. So basically I said, WTH and decided to fork over extra money for an oil change
Stupid, I know hehe.

I did call around and was able to negotiate with the prices at a couple of dealerships, and basically I think the price I'm getting is decent. But, after looking at the service booklet, I was just wondering if I could have saved more money by having a 1 year service performed at my car's 2 year life. My wife is going to get a Cayman later this year and I can apply that logic to her car.
