The dd beater got gaffled!

So my Honda that I use primarily to park at the train station got broken into
yesterday. This is exactly why the pcar stays home. Eight cars got hit and eveyone but me was upset. The cop taking the report was surprised by my calmness over the ordeal. I just told him that's what the car was for. The thing is, there are about 20 porsches in that lot daily.

I don't live in a big city, but my Chrysler PT Cruiser is my daily sacrificial lamb for DD mileage, bugs, rock chips, dirt, crappy weather, and if necessary, the drive-by smash and grab. Hopefully they didn't steal anything of value from you. Unfortunately the police don't have the manpower to spend any real time trying to investigate these types of crimes. The perps usually have to graduate to more serious crimes before they finally get caught.

I would be upset even if it were my Honda . It's not the expense that's so disturbing --it's that the theif has such disregard for those whon his actions impact . I understand that you feel the blow was lessened by the fact that your special car was not there but the theif doesn't know that.

Now my guess is that there's enough cameras and fingerprints near those eight cars to keep the cops busy . The bigger question is how much of a time priority is is to them to search for petty theives over more severe crmininals .

I think it's very sad . At least you're safe and the car can be fixed.

Fingerprints will likely not b e addressed-not serious enough of a crime in the eyes of the police If someone was murdered then that would be a different story.
We had a car stolen form Hoboken, NJ and it ended up missing 4 wheels, 2 front doors and all kinds of trim when it was found in Newark. Cops laughed when I suggested that they get serious about tracking down the thieves.

Good for you to have left the P at home, but I still would feel violated.

Pretty sad...thieves preying on those at work. What could you possibly gain from stealing from working peoples' cars that would be worth the negative Karma? Glad you're ok and you have such a great attitude.

USA is way to lenient on criminals. They need to start chopping off hands of thieves. I've had a car broken into also, its terrible and you feel violated.

I agree w/ Larry. I would be upset too even if it was a beater. What this means is the deterioration of society - thieves run free and nobody notices and stops their actions.

Yep, that's what my $3,500 2000 Acura Integra was for. Picked it up when I bought the P car exactly for this reason.

Negative Karma ? Don't think the thieves are aware they have Karma, negative or otherwise. Negative Karma ? Wow, that's deep.

Let me clarify my stance. Its not that wasn't upset becasue I don't care. Today is my birthday. The wife and I were leaving the kids behind for a great weekend and I wasn't going to let it get me down.

Speaking of karma.... I just did a good deed last week and reported the info on a hit and run driver. No good deed goes unpunished I guess.

pureretro is infamous around these parts
I once paid $700 to get a beater 1987 Camry to drive/park in the city. It was stolen TWICE in 3 months at my San Francisco office, and I paid over $300 to recover it each time, once with paid restitution. Still continued using it for a year after the second theft.

Moral of the story: better losing money on a beater than risking the Porsche.
