Life without FI

As a lot of you have followed my DIY on a VF supercharger
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...elf-style.html

Well ....
Last November I started to take the Modified VF supercharger off of my car and sell it,in preparation for the TPC turbo.....
After taking off the supercharger and selling it to Cattman
http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...y-cattman.html

I was offered another Vf charger..after getting the injectors installed for the second time,I ran into a fellow(on the forums) by the name of CanuckC4S(Vinnie).After taking some time to answer his questions about superchargers,he ended up making me an offer I just could not refuse.....So out came the injectors again,LOL and YES I am getting good at removing/installing injectors into these cars considering the tight working conditions that they offer!
So here is my car in pieces and the charger and supporting hardware OUT(everything BUT the reprogramming of the DME)....

http://

So I cleaned up and moved all my parts to my storage room off to the side of my garage in anticipation of Vinnie dropping his car off!

Finally Vinnie shows up....997 C4S with full Techart goodies and WIDE wheels.
I allow Vinnie to hang out for the next day and a half.....
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...on-begins.html

After finishing Vinnies car I decided I should put mine back together....completely stock!
Today IS the day that MY car finally had it's oil changed and DME put back in....
FIRED the car up to get......CHECK engine light....my heart drops!
I am so tired of working on these cars, that I DO NOT want to wrench ANYMORE(or at least for some time)....!
Check the code with my Durametric and it is a P0028.......bank 2 valve lift fault.
Well I have the code BUT what am I looking for,LOL!
Use my 'call a friend' option.......Karl(IaporscheDoc).
He explains to me what/where this could be.......10 mins later the car IS purring like a kitten,NOT growling like a LION(down 140 BHP).......As I stated above,I sold the supercharger!

Anyway, took it for it's maiden voyage after a long and busy winter of working on these cars.STRAIGHT to the gas station to put some fresh fuel in.....
Get out on the road and 'MASH' the pedal.........and it is like I only have half throttle!
ALL the power that once was buried under my decklid is GONE......
WHAT HAVE I DONE...I think to myself?!
The only thing keeping some what from TEARS is the fact that it IS a beautiful day here, the Cab top is done and I am STILL driving a Porsche!

I hope that I can keep the happy feeling of driving my car with NO FI(turbo or supercharger) for two reasons:
1-I am tired of wrenching and DO NOT want to start another project right now!
2-My bank account loves me right now!

So with that said those thinking of doing a Forced induction system...do so with caution....ONCE you do,you will hate yourself for going back....
Here is a pic of my BORING but clean engine bay(exciting isn't it,LOL)!

Stacy

P.S......Vinnie get your DAMN car out of my garage, you are killing me,especially when you keep telling me to drive your toilet,LOL!

I think we need a betting pool here Stacy. I think you need a major project to keep you energized and I'm betting you'll find something. Building an airplane, adding FI, building a house, something!. From the times we've communicated to your posts I think you love to throw yourself into something. And a TPC turbo kit would give you that chance! Go for it!

Welcome to the land of NA cars, learn to drive that car at the track and you will not need any more power!

I give him 2 months before he starts his next project or sells this car.

Jim I was out last summer with a MAF sensor that was not working well(covered in air filter oil) and I still blew the doors off of one...but he did loose traction!

Well,I am really not sure WHY I do half the things I do to be honest,LOL!
BUT me selling BOTH the charger kits has given two other members a chance to experience this power themselves!

OOOOHHH can I get in on this "betting pool"?
LOL.....my workmate from years ago bet me I couldn't go with the same car for 2 years........and I lost

I am still saying NO to the track Ed....!
My next project will be to put some miles on it and MAYBE even drive it in the RAIN.......BUT that may be pushing it!

We just got back from an hour and a half drive tonight and to be honest......it was still enjoyable!
It is a convertible Porsche after-all!

One thing I did notice IS:

"LIFE on the REV limiter" is over for me......

without ALL the extra power I actually have time to think about shifting through the first two gears and I get to enjoy third longer,LOL!
How's that for being positive?!

Stacy

Hey Stace....I know you're tired of wrenching....but anytime you need a hand....call. I owe you huge for assisting me with my C2S purchase.

I also know how restless you can get...so I know it will only be a short while before the phone rings.

Thank you!

Sorry buddy, I knew this would be hard. I felt almost guilty when I bought yours from you in December. I'm now nearly 3k boosted miles and loving it.

My guess is that you enjoy the spring and early summer in that beautiful cab, and then sell it. You need a project, and you've done about all you can on this one.

I know that the NA 997 is not the fastest car on a straight line, but I am still having a blast when slamming the throttle down on my tuned 327whp C2S!

After driving the car so hard on the track, straight line speed seems so pointless...

AHHHH NO.....you should listen to me and try the FI......I have experienced it .....BUT for me,BUILDING the car is all about the journey, once there it is OVER!
Maybe this winter I will FI again,I just need to DRIVE the car.(especially with the GREAT weather we were having)...
I do NOT know too many people that have regretted doing some sort of FI,so that means it has to be worth it....NO!
And lets face it there are a lot of kits out there...!

I agree these cars have more than enough power for the track BUT those of us who do NOT do the track thing, have to get our kicks elsewhere.....and that straight line performance that FI offers(0-speed limit)...is just what is needed for an exhilarating rip around the streets.I am also sure that the extra power wouldn't hurt on the track either....especially if you need to livin' up your heart rate a bit,LOL!

Just thought that I'd pass along to you all....Stacy already HAD one of these about 8 years ago with 502 (I saw the dyno chart) horsepower. When I asked him about why he built it, his response was...."I like the feeling of being able to break the tires loose and get it sideways at 60 to 80 miles per hour on the highway."
The car was pretty impressive, especially since there wasn't as much interest in custom cars as there is now. AND....as per what you've seen of Stacys' stuff...it was really well put together and completely immaculate.

Any photos left Stace?
