Pricing request - 2008 C4S
Pricing request - 2008 C4S
I've been reading as much as I can and think I have a handle on what I want, now I'm hoping you all can lend me some of your pricing knowledge.
I'm looking at a 2008 C4S with 3300 miles.
Options:
Adaptive Sport Seats
Fire Extinguisher
Self Dimming Mirrors
19' Sport Design Wheel
Black Full Leather
Chrono Package Plus
Dashboard Stitching Dev. Color
Dev.Stitching Side Centr Cnsl
Door Handle Stitching Dev.Clr
Door Stitching in Dev. Color
Floor Mats - Interior Color
Heated Front Seats
Rear Side Panel Dev.Stitching
Seat Belts - Guards Red
Standard Rocker Panels Painted
Stitching F/R seats Dev. Color
Dealer is listing this as a CPO for 76900, while Edmunds and KBB suggest pricing around 73500. Does this sound like a reasonable price?
Thanks in advance.

Tht car wholesales in the upper 50's which would place dealer cost with CPO in the low 60's.
67.5 (one time take it or leave it offer--check in hand) will leave them thinking even if they let you walk.
I wouldn't pay over 70 unless I was getting an 09 car. Also make sure to get a DME scan to detect engine over rev history.
Good luck.

Correction -- I just found your car. I also read the carfax.
From what i have read the dealership sells good cars but are hard to negotite price with.
It appears like the car was a lease car from their dealership which is usually a good thing . They get to profit twice on the same vehicle and you get a car with service history from them .
Is it worth over 70K?
Not if one looks at wholesale . You can estimate that on Kbb too (fair trade in price). I ignore Edmunds . I stand by the 67.5 opinion.

One last thing --
The strong points that you have in negotiatiing are :
1) The 2.9 percent finance rates on new cars pushes down the value of the used cars.
2) New body style for the C4S in 09 was more dramatic tahn the other C2 and c2S models .
3) New engine and PDK place the launch meteor 09 cars very close to what they are asking on the 08 car.
4) Car was titled and is 2 years old.
Weak points -
1) you are out of state which means they won't get to retain you in their service department or trade in with the car.
2) it's not end of the month so they have time to sell the car and get unit credit for April.

A few things:
* When I was shopping from my 997 KBB and Edmunds usually deviated substantially (lower) from the market. Good negotiating tools for you, but wise sellers know better.
* If it was me I'd stay away from putting a lot of money into an '08. You will suffer higher depreciation rate than '05-'07 since it was the last year of the 997.1. Along those lines, the 4S can depreciate faster than the 2S. I know of a couple '06 <20k miles 4S's that have sold recently for 50% of original MSRP.
* 3300 miles could indicate a demo. Examine the CarFax carefully. A demo isn't always a deal breaker, but its a great negotiating tool for you.

Sounds like a very well optioned car. Deviating stitching is awesome, but expensive to order. That mileage is pretty low for an 08, which is a good and bad thing.
Shouldn't pay over $70K for it, but only you can answer what it's worth to you. A car with this many options and low miles doesn't come around all that often.
Since it's still early in the month, I'll bet they stick to their guns price-wise. Maybe wait until the last day of the month (hope it's still there) to make a deal.
Good luck. And post pics if you get it.

nice options
however, i 'd would pass at the dealers asking price..
unless this is exactly what u r looking for.
should be selling at $70 k max
IMO u will be better off on a 09 (vs 08)
and i would easily sacrifice 10000 miles if it means i can get in a 997.2 at a similar price
personally, i don't like 08 cars with such a low miles.
havent seen the carfax, but a two year lease return with 3k miles?? did the owner even drive it?
perhaps, like Sub4 suggested, a dealer demo?
BTW what is the exterior color?
either way, not such a great deal.. value-wise, IMO

I know the '09's have significant improvements and think I probably should just bite the bullet and pay the extra for the newer model. Based on other threads I've seen here it looks like brand new models have been selling for 18-20% off MSRP, subtract some more for a lightly used model and that should be in my price range.
It's in Carrera White which I absolutely love. After reading through all the advice above I'm leaning more towards passing on this particular car.

I agree that the new model is the way to go at the 70+k price level though but my feeling is buy a 2010 car and try for the end of the month.
Keep in mind that there will be a 25K difference (best deal of each compared) but you get a new car by two years , a full warranty, no doubts.
The new car has a bigger and mre responsive engine , a choice of PDK, the new PCM, a limited slip differential and very different body style.
At that level though --it can compete pricewise with a used Turbo and that's the car to get.
You can still make ther offer but keep in mind that you don't ever have to over pay for the 08 car.
I don't fel its a terrible deal if you land it at 67.5 . It is a very nice car and it wasn't a demo according to the carfax . It looks like a two year lease return.

)make an offer.. only thing they can do is say 'no'
if the car is still available in couple of weeks.. make the same offer.
then do it again at the end of May..
sales managers hate to have any used cars over 90 days in stock.. it looks bad to the owners.

as they advised me here previously.. if its meant to be ur car, it will be.. =)

Keep searching.
If you don't want PDK, best to find an 07 TT below 10k miles for 79k to 84k,IMHO
For a daily driver would you consider the '07 TT? My experience with other makes of cars says I'd be better of with a NA car.
That brings up an interesting question. I plan for this car to be a daily driver, and had pretty much decided to move to an '09 C2S PDK based on the 997.2 improvements and my budget.
