My first 911!
My first 911!
I have been a long time Cayman/Boxster fan and previous Boxster owner, but after we had our first child 7 mos ago my wife insisted that I buy a sports car with a back seat. Thank you, sweetheart! I just bought my first 911, a silver 2006 997S cab 6spd. I had a long list of mods I wanted to do to the Cayman I was going to purchase and had researched for months. Now I have to start all over. I only want to lightly modify it, but was curious about the "must have" mods. I have been reading alot of old posts so it will take me a while to get caught up. It's funny, I actually showed up to buy my 997 with clear side markers in hand that I had ordered weeks before I found the right car. Next up (prob in this order) is the Fabspeed CAI, Borla exhaust, and Softronic Flash. And at some point a snug fitting baby seat for the back!
Haha your wife is awesome. Just make sure you get the Recaro baby seat. I'm sure your wife wouldn't mind putting the baby in a little helmet too. Some people have mixed reviews but a must have for my 911s is the plenum. I can't see how it couldn't improve performance but thats just my 2 cents.
Congrats on the car. It's the first 911 but coming from a Boxter it's still Porsche family. Good luck with figuring out how you's like to customize it . I have only driven one Cab that was modified . It was forum member BabyMd ( about a year ago) but he hasn;t posted in awhile . He had the same setup on his C4S cab that i had with my former coupe --the F77/Tubi and I must say it sounded amazing on the cab. It was just loud enough without popping my eardrums with the top down and the power was typical of the setup which I found impressive .

Thanks,
Instead start with suspension mods, get to drive this car a bit after that and then decide if you can live with stock powerplant and in this case - upgrade exhaust and ECU or go with add-on 100+ horses on FI system but without warranty.
Thanks everyone for the well wishes. The back passenger seat is out and awaiting the Britax Roundabout sans the base (info courtesy of 6speedonline.com community). The clear markers look great. Prob gonna pass on FI and enjoy it with minor mods for a few years. Fabspeed CAI en route and Borla catback enroute. Now have to research ECU flashes.
Congrats on the new ride, car looks great. Interesting to read as I also started looking for a 997 after my wife and I had our first baby and my fun car at the time was a MB AMG two-seater. Always wanted a 911 and of course wanted to be able to take our little one with us so the hunt for a 997 began and the little guy now loves being out in the back seat of the car (and he loves staring at the sky with the top down).
Be careful with what exhaust you choose, especially with a Cab (and also if your wife has any say in the exhaust volume). When I started looking for an exhaust, I looked for quality, reputation, exhaust tone, and acceptable volume (not necessarily in that order). After listening to a couple in person and on video clips, I went with a full AWE set-up and couldn't be happier. There were a few that were just to loud and/or the tone didn't sound right for a Porsche (maybe Ferrari) and I found the AWE to be perfect.

congrats on the car
I'm also fairly new to my 911 and I can not be happier. I have the OEM Porsche car seat and it works very well. Its normally the first thing people comment on. Valets look at you like your crazy but thats just fine by me. My lady pushed me into the Porsche and that just one more reason she rocks.
enjoy the new ride.
enjoy the new ride.
