I'm undergoing several mods from my Porsche dealer. The Porsche SSK is on my quickly growing mod list. Trying to save me $$$, the service manager suggested going with the B&M because:

".... B&M makes the Porsche SSK. It's just the entire assembly - dropped in. The B&M uses the Porsche box, with new linkages....."

This is for my 997.2 and repeats some earlier comments.

B&M does not make the 997 SSK, every linkage piece is new and redesigned on this version, no pieces are shared with the B&M version. The guts of the 997 SSK are plastic/billet aluminum, the B&M version is all metal.

The only version that is B&M-style was the 996 SSK, and that has been discontinued by Porsche (and I'm sure there is a reason why they discontinued that kit). I've seen all versions available, I'm very familiar with this subject.......just trying to show the facts.

So forgetting that you and my Porsche service manager (who clearly doesn't have a problem taking my money; and is suggesting the B&M) differ..... Do you think the B&M is, dare I say, higher quality because it is all metal? Or is there and advantage, mechanically, to the plastic/ billet of the Porsche SSK?

I had the dealer install the OEM SSK last week on my '06 C4. Good price. No potential warrranty issues. Smooth install. Great result. I followed advice of NVan & RonCT. Thank you Rennlist.

IMO, the 997 SSK is the best on the planet, the only downside is the price. We have been selling them since 2005, and I've never had a defective unit. I've had customers buy the 997 SSK or the stock 997 shift console from me, and they claim it was to remove the B&M kit due to problems/quirks. The B&M's are great kits if they're installed properly by an experienced professional. If not.......good luck.

Can someone plz provide info on doing this install yourself? I am going to go with the Porsche SSK but the dealer wants $300 to do it. I have installed a B&M on my brothers cayman S and it was kind of a pain in the *** but not too bad. I hear this is much easier so i figured i can just put it in myself. Does anyone know where i could find a good step by step diagram for this install?

There are lots of threads going on these days about SSK's. I think its time for a summer sale or group buy on the OEM SSK! Any thoughts from Suncoast??!
