Just had the paddle steering wheel fitted...

If you have a PDK 997 you simply MUST do this - the difference is out of all proportion to the item fitted.

First impressions:
1) You have the intuitive gear change offered by the paddles
2) The wheel looks sensational after the plastic original
3) The alloy paddles are a joy to operate
4) They also have a wonderful tactile feel
5) The wheel is smaller and chunkier
6) You can now hold and operate the wheel properly to steer the car without nudging the buttons
7) Because of the smaller diameter (and I think, because there's less mass and hence inertia at the wheel rim), the steering 'feel' is hugely enhanced. Seriously, from just a change of steering wheel, the absolutely 'dead' feel through the standard wheel has gone and it's now dancing in your hands as a 911 should.

In short, it's changed the car from 'good but irritating' to 'can't stop grinning' in about 30 minutes!

Awesome!

Sound great

this is the way it should have come from the beginning. I'm very tempted to do the upgrade, but I've just gotten so used to the stock set up I'm not sure its worth the 1k upgrade for me personally. It would be great if Porsche said we made a mistake the first time and all you guys can fit the new wheel for free

LOL

I don't see that happening though

Great to hear the additional improvements it provides above and beyond the actual paddles, which are already very tempting. Sounds like the perfect upgrade.

Awesome!
Is the paddle wheel really smaller than the regular PDK wheel?
From these two pics here, both of them look almost the same size:

Same diam, same thickness. All else is an illusion.

TBH I haven't compared them side by side - the paddle wheel just feels smaller and slightly thicker-rimmed. One thing that is certain is it changes the position of your hands on the wheel - the paddle one is like the wheel on my old 997S.1 - the button wheel felt different

The again, it could all just be me hallucinating....

Maybe our 'steering wheel size sense' is no more reliable than our butt dynos?

I just drove the 997.2 PDK with different wheels (buttons and paddle), one after another. No comparison, the paddle wheel is so much more intuitive....and it felt a lot nicer as well.

Congrats on the upgrade. Porsche dropped the ball with the buttons, but glad that they saw the light and corrected the mistake. Perfect example of continuous improvements and evolution.
