Tickets for no front license plate?
The rule seems quite fair actually.
I'm assuming that the green plates were from a time when only 1 plate was required and the red plates are form the era of 2 plates.
Since they don't make the green plates anymore the cannot expect you to have a green one on the front, but if you were given red ones, you got both and are expected to mount them.
The thinking is that the folks with green plates will eventually all transition to red as they sell the cars or the cars get junked... so those folks were grandfathered.
Is that not the situation?

I'd rather take a dip in the Charles river rather than do the I-93 commute from the South Shore. North Shore is a bit more tolerable. Metro West or 'in' the city is ideal!
I got one in Irvine while in college (about 7 years ago); I had the license plate on my dash instead of the car (Lexus SC400). $10 fix it.
A few years ago, I didn't run one on my 350Z. No problems w/ that... and I had all my tuner parts on it... wheels, exhaust; lowered; tinted. It might have saved me when those speed cameras would go off on me sometimes.

I doubt that. All of Europe is 2 plates.. in fact most of the rest of the world is 2 plates. Revenue generations isn't the issue. Identification of a vehicle from the front and the back is the issue. Densely populated or urban regions prefer 2 plates because of the benefit of being able to identify vehicles by looking at them from the front; both for eyewitness and law enforcement purposes. In very rural or unpopulated regions, there is little value for the 2nd plate and they are happier with the lower cost of a single plate.
Any shots from the mounting underneath?
Unfortunately not - Eventually when I put the car back on the lift I'll take some but that isn't for a while. It was pretty straight forward though unlike other cars. With the 997S I was able to use the existing hardware out of the box, drill three holes through the bottom side of the air dam/valance and it was easy because I could see from the inside. I knew I wasn't about to drill into the radiator or something else. Then I used the nuts and lock washers in the kit to tighten it up.
Tickets Cost More Now in CA
A few months back there was a thread on this topic that alerted folks in Calif that in Jan 2010 the fine jumped from $25 to something over $100 (an odd figure I can't recall, like $124 or similar). Many shared stories of being pulled over regularly, and that parking at LAX guaranteed a ticket.
Come to Metro West its an easy shot into the city down Mass Pike or Rt. 9 . . . I'm in Natick and not moving anywhere
