Could not launch control
Okay after 7 months of 997.2 ownership, I finally wanted to experience/test launch control this past weekend. Woke up at 5:30 Am drove it to the back roads (took me no more than 15 minutes to get to the back roads from my garage). Oil temp was around 175. Outside temp was 50 F. Then followed the instructions. 1. PSM off. 2. Sport plus mode. 3. Floored the accelerator with left foot on brakes. 3. Engine did not rev past 3 to 4 K.. felt like it was hesitating...then I get a message on the dash that stated transmission is too hot ??? !!!! Am I missing something here.
Will be calling the dealership later today. Anyone had this problem.

Wow, that's wierd, you should call the dealer... Sounds like you did everything correctly, I've done it many times now, no problems what so ever. Only problem was... I couldn't stop smiling!!! Hope everything works out for you...
I doubt that oil temperature is an indicator of transmission temperature. How hard did you run it going to the back roads from your garage? I read in one road test (C&D) that after several hard runs a Cayman they tested would not engage launch control because of excessive transmission temperature. Hope it's not something chronic.
I did a very casual drive (like I usually do) for the first 6 minutes or so until oil temp was 175 degree. Then for the next ten minutes did spirited driving. May be that was enough to get the trnasmission over heated but I am still quite surprised.
I wonder what GT3 folks woul say if in between the race car would start saying 'no go' instead of racing forward. Still, PDK is the future, it is just quite obvious now it requires way better cooling system = additional radiators and more weight = additional wear on transmission, axles, engine, gears... It really comes to the point where Porscche will must draw a line of how much crap they want to put into their cars and return running weight well under 3K lbs.
Don´t think you made it the right way. I always leave the PSM on and the revs goes to 6500rpm before releasing the brake pedal.
Here´s a official video from Porsche on which you learn how to do it properly.

I am relieved guys. Just came back from a successful launch control. PSM was not turned off (wonder why the car and driver website mentioned to do that), the brakes were depressed all the way down firmly (very hard push) and then pushed the throttle all the way to the floor, quickly, PAST the kick down button. I don't think I did steps two and three correctly last time. There was definite hesitation the first time around. Maybe that lead to the PDK overheating message on the dash because even today to get to the launch control friendly back road I had to drive 15 minutes.
Thank you all for the suggestions and wishes. Jseven the video definitely helped. Thank you. (I saw that several months ago... should have seen it one more time before my first atempt at LC. Adias, you are always a class act. Thank you for the support via PM.
