Ordering a 997S
Ordering a 997S
I have checked many California dealers as well as neighboring states such as Washington, Nevada and Arizona and still cannot find a 997 S in the color and options that I am looking for:
Seal Grey or Black w/
Sport Chrono
Bose
6-Disc
Heated Seats
19" Classics
That said, if I was to order one how long do you guys think it would take to get? What concerns me is that the answers I get from dealers have been all over the map from April to July 2005.
In fact, I seem to get an attitude when I ask about ordering and many of them try to sell me a yellow base model 997 or a new Boxster which is really a turn off. Any advice?

That's twice I've gotten treated like crap at Rector Porsche(other time was before we bought our Cayenne S last year).

why not tell them you are looking to spend a lot of money and if they are not going to give you the service you deserve- you will go elsewhere.
I suggest go through an online broker and have dealers contact you that want to earn your buisness.

What seems odd to me is that the dealer still gets the vehicle markup margin if I order it through them or buy one on their lot, right?
One dealer (Stevens Creek) made me feel like an idiot for wanting an S over a 997 non S. He said, "why would you want the S, its only .2 of a second faster to 60 anyway." I was blown away by this response.
Another dealer told me that I wouldnt find an S anywhere and especially not at sticker price. A couple other dealers didn't seem interested in my business whatsoever. I ask if they will be getting anymore 997 S's in stock and they tell me not until May and don't ask me for my card or anything?!?!?
This general attitude is rather discouraging. I'm not sure if it is because I am in my early 30's and looking to buy my first Porsche or if it is because I have done my homework and when I speak to a dealer I already have my mind made up on the car that I want?

I live in St. Louis ,but bought my S from Herb Chambers in Boston. A nice discount and they shipped it covered to the Lou at their expense. I know they sell cars to CA customers.

If you check out dealers in the Midwest a number still have 997S's in black/Black with Sport Chrono, Bose, and not surprisingly heated seats. Porsche Exchange in Highland Park and Concours in Milwaukee are two that come to mind.
Start your search in IL, WI, MN, IN, IA, and MI. (You know you can do that on Porsche's website - right?) Most of those dealers would I'm sure be more than happy to ship your new car west to you.

I may take you up on that offer - thanks Alex. I actually have heard good things about Carlsen and look forward to visiting them. I will be traveling for a couple of weeks on business but will be in touch when I get back.

Please let me know if this is possible.
Great feedback everyone - thank you all. Does anyone know what kind of penalties (emissions) I will have to incurr if I buy out of California and then register it in California?
