Nice test of 997.2S in Automobile

Just got the issue today and the 911 goes up against the Evora, Z06 carbon, and nissan GTR. It was nice to see someone appreciate the tactile advantages the 911 has over some of the brute-force mobiles out there.
Can't believe the Evora doesn't even have a dead-pedal.......

Spoiler:
The 911 won the test!

And the 997.2 Turbo just beat out the Corvette ZR1 and Nissan GTR in Road & Track last month too!

Who cares? Aren't we secure in our own convictions? Who needs the approval of a magazine?

I think it's nice to see credit given to where it is due.

Agreed. Buy a car that you are happy with and not one that wins magazine contests.

Maybe I am naive, but I would think that positive press could equal more demand, which could raise the value of the car/brand as a whole. Which ultimately helps all owners.

If those same automobile magazines had slammed the Porsche entries and given them a bad rap during these road/track tests, wouldn't you all expect at least some pushback posted here by concerned owners? I expect that the inverse would also be true; when credit is given we should take pride in the Porsche brand. So, congratulations everybody!!!

IMO, Porsche has been around for a long time, and has weathered many fly-by-night competitors, both decent and not so decent. For example, we had the 280/300zx's back in the day, we had Acura NSX's, Supras, we have even had the old Toyota AE86's that have been fads of their times. Now, I know, zx's supras and NSX's were actually decent cars in their own rights, but at the end the Porsche is still the staple, and the quintisenscial uber sports car. So I believe that any new nissan or toyota or honda model that comes along will simply fill a segment of the market that is more interested in things like brute force speed, video game electronics, or crazy looking body kits, they probably wouldn't be that interested in the nuanced and subtle pedigree of the Porsche anyway.

The only car that really has my respect is the vette, it's a tried-and-true production race car in it's own right minus some build quality issues, but as most of us know, a different beast all together than the Porsche.

300zx tt was a great car!

+1 on the corvette... and, I had a 1991 pearl white 300zx twin turbo that I drove the pi** out of for 120,000 + miles that was also a great car. Never gave me a bit of trouble until the wiring harness began disintregrating after 12 years due to the heat in my city (Phoenix, AZ) and the heat from the turbos, probably. The car put out 300HP stock and with an intake and a Jim Wolf altered computer would bump up to 360hp! Really fun car for the money that I drove all over Cali, Colo, and AZ getting all sorts of tickets!!! Was really 90% of what a p-car was for a lot less money-- great for a young guy on a budget...
