Has LSD been an option on the 997s since 2006? If not, when was it offered?

The LSD option first came available in 2009 on the 997.2. If you have a 997.1 you will have an open differential. You can upgrade the differential to Quaife, Guards, etc.

I put a Quaife in mine about 18 months ago and wonder what they were doing by not offering one in a Carrera.

There was a sport suspension offered in Europe with the 997.1 . i don't recall what year it began and it was not offered in North America.

 

Yrralis, you are correct about the sports suspension for the European market that was not available for North America. I believe it was offered from the very beginning. Curiously, there is a part number for a transmission with limited slip on the North America PET catalog though I don't know how it would work with our cars that came with PSM and PASM. This transmission is for the 997.1 cars.

 

It depends on how you drive. I find it so much easier to throw the back end around with control. Cornering becomes more of a point and shoot, then with the OEM diff, and I can get on the gas when I want to.

 

I don't believe it can be retrofitted or if it can it's very expensive .

 

It might be easier (or more logical) to upgrade to an aftermarket LSD... People complain that factory LSD don't last long on the track

 

+1, it would have been nice to have a factory option available, however I know a lot of GT3 owners that have replaced their LsD due to wear

 

IMO if you're not tracking the car heavily, there's so much weight over the rear wheels that you don't really need an LSD

 

As I said earlier, it depends on how you are driving your car.

 

For a car driven only on the street, there is absolutely no need...
