A little more juice

Hi all. I am new to the forum. I currently own a 2005 997 C2S which I bought new and love. I am looking for a little more power. Country/ back roads and wknd road trips are my intended use. I love the purity of the rwd/6spd. Looking at buying a used 2008 GT2 or possibly ordering a new one with the expensive power package ($16.9K for 23 xtra hp) Does anyone have the latter and think it is worth it. Bullet proof reliability is most important to me. Any thoughts are much appreciated.
Jim

Are you referring to a 997.2 C2S with X51? You will be better off getting a GT2, they are two different cars, and the C2S with never be a GT2 or compete with it's performance.

surprised to here that the 997.1 c2s isn't sufficient for your weekend drives... i've found that in all the backroads (i'm in socal) that hp won't do anything, rather it's enjoying the handling of the car.

even more so, it's slower cars on narrow back roads that end up spoiling the ride. over the 4th, i was on hwy 67 (lakeside) and a tight road to the barona casino... lots of fun, but definitely no need/use for a heavy hp monster...

on highway road trips, i've found that i can get up to 100mph+ quicker than i'd ever really need, whether it be down or up I-5... or up PCH to Santa Barbara...

so the question is, what type of power are you looking for? straightline performance or the overall package? i think the 997.2 + x-51 sounds awesome, but definitely not worth the price they are charging for it... if you just want some extra zip, why not even look at a 997.1 TT? some members on the board even opted to spend a little more money and throw on a TPC turbo charger onto their existing cars...

Since you still love your car and would suffer huge upgrade costs to get to a GT2, why not look into the TPC Racing turbo setup? .... that's what I did earlier this year and have been thrilled by the extra 140 HP and to-date bulletproof reliability.

The Gt2 is an incredible car and given that rain in California is not too heavy (compared to other regions) it makes the choice harder . The Turbo offers the extra stability needed in harsh weather with the higher Hp so it is more versatile on the street . In fact .. a Turbo PDK comes pretty nice even in stock form . That might be the way to go .

Thanks!

..to all for the great feedback. I thought about upgrades to my car especially turbocharging etc but am concerned about reliability and changing of the vehicle dynamics as I am not especially mechanically inclined. Has anyone felt the difference of the X51 pckg on any Porsche. Is it obviously better and faster as I think there are subtle changes in the exhaust as well? For sheer speed and handling the obvious choice is a tt PDK but there is something I love about the 6spd rwd platform.

The X51 is a very nice package. It's rare and quite expensive when compared to the options in the aftermarket. However Porsche does put it through rigorous testing in various climates and conditions as opposed to in a lab or on a dyno. In short --you get what you pay for .. but since it is so rare it may actually be better off opting for a Gt3 . This way you get the extra Hp , the extra grunt in the midrange, the performance packaging .. all at one price . It costs less (new) than a used gt2 and even though it won't have Gt2 power .. with the NA engine and some street Ps2 tires and an axle lift .. it can offer some street friendly aspects .
