PSE question
PSE question
i have 2010 pse with ashtray switch
i had 2005 997s with pse
when i unhooked the orange wire in engine compartment pse would stay on and was louder than simply pressing sport button (i installed after delivery - had it hooked to sport button). I mean it was a good deal louder when unplugged - sounded awesome!
question - do the new style PSE work the same way? can i unhook in engine compartment and have it be louder? it already stays on all the time when i use my switch. I have noticed it has gotten louder since i installed it. Definitely better sound now than 3 or so months ago when i bought the car. But i would like even louder - like the old style pse unplugged.
any thoughts? Dont really want to spend more money to get more sound. I have modded enough (wheels, PSE, makassar wood etc. - over $12k in mods)and spent lots on buying a brand new car.
Thanks
next time maybe tubi on the pdk turbo i hope 1 day to own

I dont have a 997, but my 2003 996 came with factory PSE as well and I did unplug the orange conector as well to have it loud all the time. I didnt notice it to be louder though than when the switch was controling the valves. Are you sure this is the case? I dont think it can get any louder than it is with the valves fully open, with or without the switch conected unless on the 997 the valves have multiple stages of open rather than just open or closed.
Sorry I cant help you out here.

I forgot to mention, I understand you dont want to drop more $ but some have added sport cats to get louder sound without changing the character of the PSE too much. Just a thoough if all else fails.
I had PSE on my 997. Your ashtray switch is giving you the ability to have the PSE in loud/sport mode all the time vice allowing the computer to control the valves. The computer would open and close the valves at various RPM's to maintain a constant sound level. Your ashtray switch either opened or closed the valves.
Unplugging does the same as your ashtray switch by locking the PSE open. It should not be any louder plugged or unplugged compared to the operation of your ashtray switch. But, it will be louder at certain rpms than the normal sport button operation.

I was able to add some additional sound on my '09 cab with PSE by sleeving the center muffler using 2.25" OD .035" wall stainless tubing.
Using 2 pieces of tubing (one for each side) of approximately 7" length you can by-pass the baffles in the muffler creating the same effect as the by-pass pipes everyone sells. I orginally had tried an after market by-pass but had fitment issues due to the PSE (had to offset the tips to make it fit).
Sounds is very similar to the stock PSE, just more of it. I've had more aftermarket systems than I can count on various cars and the sound of this mod with PSE is just right in terms of loudness. It also produced a slightly higher pitched sound at higher RPM compared to the aftermarket muffler by-pass system I tried (which is what I was after).
