got smoked by a GTR this morn!
Definitely a lot of badge snobs on this post. If this were boxing and we had to judge who the stronger fighter is "pound for pound" (in this case, i'm using price as the normalizing factor), the GTR would knock out the Porsche in the 1st rd. Period. I own my own C2S liike most of us here on this site and have no plans or desires to switch over to a GTR, but the guys saying a 997.2 TTS can smoke a stock GTR just don't get it. It costs TWICE as much! it SHOULD outperform. The equivalent p-car in the GTR price range is a 997S and on performance alone the GTR dominates. The other "qualatative" factors such as overall cabin feel, preference for the body shape, history, lineage...etc are serioulsy skewing most of the opinions on this thread (as one would almost expect on a porsche board).
Driven a GTR; bonzai-fast, good car. Heck, I could have bought an EVO, a few mods and still beat a 911 with lots of cash left.
My 911 appeals to me, EVO, GT-R did not.
I said this earlier. I have heard this exact comment from more than one of my professional colleagues, people in the market for "fun" cars, not car guys. These are the same folks who put down the Lexus LFA vs a 599 because it's "just a Lexus".
I think it's safe to say that virtually everyone on this and the GT-R Board are gearhead types. There are likely more non-gearhead types buying these cars because they read a review in the WSJ or NYT, not Motor Trend, Evo, C&D, etc. Badge Snobs exists and if it weren't for them these cars WOULD NOT be made.

The Evo was actually on my short list. From point A to B I have no doubt that it was quicker than my C2 and far easier to drive at the limit. It was very difficult to upset the car, the sucker just stuck to the road. That said IT AIN'T NO 911!

Please show me where I said it is just a Nissan. I never put the car down, just simply stated that I dont care for the looks of the inerior and exterior...which is my subjective opinion.
This was a fun experience for me whether I win or lose, and I would do it again because that is why I love performance cars.
I approach this forum for info and entertainment and I dont understand why some people need to come on here and try to insult each other with name calling and such.

If you watched that "Battle of the Supercars", you would have noticed that Tanner could not launch himself out of a wet paper bag in that drag race. I could have cooked omlettes for everybody that has posted in this thread in the time it took him to get to full boost. A better launch could have definately garnered a different result. With that said, the GTR is a beast. Anybody hating on it has either not driven one or they are just plain ignorant.

This is the only video I can find of them stock vs stock (at least, I think they are stock): http://www.streetfire.net/video/pors...gtr_194699.htm
This is a stock GT-R vs a stock 997.1 GT2:

And this is a stock GT-R vs a stock 997.2TT PDK:

Advance the vid to 2:25

Both vids show a great launch...too bad he didn't have a vbox with him at the time, would have loved to see his numbers.
Not sure if the GT-R used LC, but it wouldn't have made a difference in the walk away at speed. And in both vids, the 997TT had a passenger.

Isn't competition a wonderful thing... ultimately consumers win.
This "Brand Snob" Idea implies that snobs are limited to one brand or another...
Snobbery transcends brands and tax brackets...
Smile and waive at other people who enjoy the same (or similar) things you do.

I don't think the GtR used LC but I got the same one car leap on it in 1st.
My car was only stock for about the fist month though so it's hard to remember how it drove but it was much slower then. At that time the GtR had not been launched (it was 2007) .
It drives me insane when car mags and forums worldwide compare the GTR against Porsches and label 911 driver like me as Brand snob because I drive an inferior car???
If we talk about poor performance per $$$$, surely a F430, R8 V8 or Aston Martin Vantage V12 is even worst then a 997 Turbo when compare with the mighty GTR or Gozilla!
I had driven the GTR and had even own a modded R33 during my boyracer days!
However, I bought the 911 cause it delivers everything I need for a sunday car plus the fact that I always want one. Just like my wife, I fancy her since my teens and she looks timeless!

I would take a 911 over a GT-R but to dismiss the latter purely of it's origin is being a badge snob. Dismissive statements seperate the badge snobs from actual car enthusiasts.
Interesting thread.
I met a guy at work who purchased a Mustang GT (before the 5.0) and thought he had the fastest car in the office. He had no idea my Nissan (350 he called it) could even compare to his 13.2sec 1/4 mile.
People who don't know, don't know.
People who know what the GT-R is capable of, understand that released a beast. I'm having a VERY difficult time choosing my next car, because I'm trying to pick one that offers something the GT-R does not.
Is the GT-R the prettiest car? No.
Is it the fastest? Nope.
Etc...
It is a complete package, affordable (relatively), extremely easy to drive everyday, and fun to drive at the driver's limits (without getting into trouble).
To address the "sleeper" comment. Yeah, the GT-R is a sledgehammer out of the box. But it has become quite common to add almost 100hp by adding a Y-pipe and custom tune for about $2k. So these GT-R's (including the one that lined up with the OP) that like to 'push' it, are probably running close to 600hp. I don't know if that makes the OP feel better about his 'lesson' or not, but I hope it puts things into perspective about the distance.
If I were to line up with a 911, you better believe I'm putting my VDC to 'R' mode, and launching the sh*t outta my GT-R.
It's also equally as fun to show a 335i owner that he doesn't have the fastest car on the block.
disclaimer: poster is not delusional about the GT-R being the fastest car on Earth. There is ALWAYS someone faster.
