20" wheels on a 997 S

Folks, is it okay to put 20" rims on a 997.1 S? Will it adversly affect handling, drive, feel, wear, etc. I think it would look nice, but before I spend the $, I want to know the pros and cons. Please help.

They will look nice. Mostly if you lower it tastefully in my opinion to "finish" the look. Also it will be less tire and more wheel. First off-make sure they are an outstanding and reputable company that you purchase them from. That is the most important in general. Next, I see you live in Nevada, where I assume roads are in fairly good condition. With that said you are a better candidate for 20's. But you will always feel more road and be more susceptible to road hazard when you put 20's on a 911. On the other side they will look quite nice, but you might need a small drop as stated to finish the look. This forum has many discussions on this topic. You can also do a search. Hope that helps. My personal feeling is to go 19's but I live in New England.

If I don't lower it will it look bad with 20's? Can I do the 20's without lowering it or does that not work?

18s is where it's at. If you stick 20's on that puppy they may end up egg shaped.

20's all the way...IF your local roads can endure them and IF you do not track your car!
And I do believe that your roads are good......
No regrets here rolling 20's....I even ordered another set of DPE 20" wheels so that I can change my car's shoes/boots when I desire!

I always believed that go big or go home but 19's are WAY more comfortable, just drop the car and it looks good with eiher 19 or 20's

My 20's feel fine with an H&R sport springs drop. Definately more firm than stock but does not feel harsh.

I completely agree with the drop recommendations, and the 20's look great! However, I am sticking with the 19's for now given the unsprung weight difference from the 20's to forged 19's. What a difference! I have not taken shots of the car with the 20's back on, but after seeing the post above with the H&R's and 20" Techarts, I've got to see this on my car now. By the way, the H&R's seemed to have improved my ride over the stock setup like many have posted. The 19 to 20" change did make a slight decrease in ride quality, however I didn't buy the car for its plush comfort.

Here are some pic's for comparison:

1st pic is with stock suspension on 20" Techarts.
2nd pic is with stock suspension and 19" RG19 Champions.
3rd pic is with H&R springs and 19" RG19's (sorry for the phone pic)

Looks is a personal opinion....I do not like the thin tire wall looks of a 20" wheel on a 997. If you only just cruise around town then 20's will handle ok but if you want to maintain the highspeed handling of the car stick with the 19's...if you track stick with 19's or 18's.

Also if you go with 20's make sure the overall diameter of the 20's maintains the same spec of the stock 19". Any bigger overall diameter than the stock 19's and you will notice a decress in acelleration because you just changed the gearing and you will affect how ABS and PSM work.
