Valentine One - Mount ideas?
Valentine One - Mount ideas?
On my M6, I was able to squeegee the visor clip under the headliner at the front of the windshield... tried that on the 911, and it barely goes in.
All the V1's I've seen on 911's appear to have to use the suction cups... unless you go with an integrated rear view mirror.
Are there any other alternative for mounting?

Hi Mark, you could try using the "search" feature when looking for the answer to a question. As it happens, many such queries have been asked before, and it can be valuable to learn from that knowledge-base rather than start from scratch.
In addition, my best advice would be to post your questions in the forum most closely related to your car. In this case, you drive a 997, but are posting in a "911" air-cooled forum.

Used to have it to the right and above mirror, now have the G Bracket. Like it a lot.

I just received my V-1 last week. I found the visor mount position to be too far out of my line of easy sight, and I didn't like the wire. I am now using the suction cups, with the unit about 2" above the center of the dash, which I find to be a very effective position. It's been interesting being able to track the location of signals, but I can't say that I've been 'saved' yet. That time will come, I'm sure.
The G-bracket looks interesting, but nobody I know has one.

Sorry for poor pic but.....this is same mount I have in 993/996/997 and AMG.....have never used suction cups....head unit bracket screwed into windshield surround and hides behind visor.....display sets straight down from line-of-site on steering column.

I'm only posting this to help the great board sponsor who makes and sells these things:

How I did it
I bought the wiring harness from G Rides and ran the wire up the drivers side A Pillar, across the windshield and over to the drivers side visor. Exactly the same as KaamaCat. Works great for switching the unit easily bw cars. I wrapped a small strip of velcro on the end of the wire for easily tacking the loos end to the ceiling when the radar is removed. 100% out of sight.
When I use radar, mostly on freeways and remote areas, I don't mind it being slightly visible...drivers side visor is best for me. When driving around town, or with other people in the car I prefer not having a bracket in plain visible sight and dealing with the thought of it.
Note: As other posters have said, Gary King @ G Rides is absolutely great to work with. I emailed him a couple times with questions re: install and he got right back. The quality of his product is good too.
Good luck

I just hardwired my V1 and have it on the windshield just above the dash about 5-6 inches so it still can receive signals from the rear also. You only see the few inches of the wire coming up from the dash to the V1.
Careful what you wish for...
These brackets do look interesting but according to Valentine, you want the V1 mounted as high up as possible. Based on personal experience, I have dramatically reduced sensitivity range w/ my V1 in my 997 vs daily driver SUV. Both are mounted at the top of the windshield just to the right of the mirror. In the 997 it's approx 45" from the road surface - in my SUV it's approx 65". As such, not sure I'd want to move it down further but YMMV.
As for line of site, guess I'm "lucky" enough to have inspection stickers which I use to conceal my concealed display...

Oh.......On a side note.....
When I run the wire up the a pillar and along the front drivers side roofline, that space is quite "open". What I've had great luck in doing is, to wrap the power wire in this thin foam about every 8-10". (The stuff you might find in Walmart used for a portable excercise mat. Seems to be blue in color with a waffle imprint pattern to it). Just make a 1-2" long cut about 1" wide and wrap it then "stuff" it into the space. Holds nice an expands a tad to hold in place. Its real thin stuff 1/8-1/4" max in thickness.
........and that stuff is GREAT if you cut slice (however you want) and stick onto your garage wall sides where your door might open to protect it!
