Personally I favor installing in the rear, the V1 senses front and back so the worst case scenario should be the front detection is then only as good as the rear protection when windshield mounted. I ran with the V1 in the rear for three years and never had any problems, embedded the display in the rear view mirror, controls on the back and never looked back.

Ditto on what Chris said. I've had a bracket of one sort or another (wink, chris) in the back since about 2003 and it's worked fine. Driving with other p-cars, i get the alarm at the same time. No windshield mount for me.
