Don't forget that all GTS models are wide body rwd & awd.

Quote: Narrow Body C2, C2S, GT3

Wide Body C4, C4S, Targa 4, Targa 4S, GT3RS, Turbo, GT2

The difference is about 1.75" total width.

Agree with earlier posters. Take your time and do your research first. I did some research but not enough before buying my first 911. Fortunately the salesperson steered me well and I ended up with a 997.2 C4S (although the difference is subtle, I love the wide body look - instead of long & lean I consider it wide & lean). I ended up with pretty much all of the options I would pick again - just missing sport exhaust which can be added after. If I update the car I will try a PDK next time as the 6MT is a blast but turns into real work in stop & go traffic. Do your homework, then take your time and be a little picky. Wait for what you want, don't jump too quick just because you are finally realizing your dream of acquiring a 911. My 2 cents.

Wider Looks Better
Most definitely. Wide body combined with being lower gives it more Stance.
In terms of performance, wider makes the car a tad more stable during high speed turns and improves under steer. On the other hand, some argue that the wider body 911s loose a touch of the classic 911 "inverted pendulum" feel (and more so with heavier awd models). I believe Chris Harris may have said once, the best 911 one can buy for pure driving pleasure is a manual 911S coupe. If so, I'd agree. He said that before the 991. Having driven many 911S variants..I'd add to that opinion and say the 997.2 911S manual coupe..is arguably, the purest 911 in terms of driving pleasure as well. I still think the wider body look and added stability is worth the slight loss of classic 911 feel.

Do some research and go with what you want. At first a WB was a must have but now except for the Turbo I wouldn't buy a all wheel drive wide body. More parts to maintain, heavier, higher price, and tires size restriction.

But if 1.5" wider is a "must have" then go for it...honestly I couldn't distinguished the difference.

Selecting the style of 911 is a personal matter.

I went with the 2011 RWD GTS Coupe with a manual transmission.

I felt it ticked all the boxes.

Wide body and track, RWD (for me closer to my older Porsches) 997.2 size was important.

I test drove a 991 GTS Coupe and felt it was more of a GT that my earlier Porsche cars. Along with the PDK, it just wasn't for me.

I wanted to get back to what I had owned years ago and felt the interior cockpit did that with the 997.2. along with the stick.

Also, they didn't make many RWD, manual Coupe GTS cars for the years available. So I do like the ownership of a model of limited numbers.

The great thing is you have tons of choices, so enjoy and find your personal car that "fits".

Other Wide Body 911's Dont forget the Targa 4 and 4S
Quote: What a mess trying to figure out what is wide bdy and what is not. Im writing all of this down.

So......
996
NB Carrera, Carrera 4
WB Carrera 4S, Turbo

997
WB C4, C4S, Turbo, TurboS GTS

991
WB C4, C$S
Mega Wide Turbo and Turbo S

Does this look correct. Please tell me if I need to add stuff.

Also I can't afford a turbo. My buddy says a turbo on a car that gets almost 400HP isn't needed. Your thoughts.
Targa 4 and Targa 4S, Both have the wide body, Only 800 imported for the Targas for the 997...So much rarer.hard to find.

no offense but your “buddy” is dead wrong. Wide body manual turbo. Drive it a year and you’ll be looking for more, trust me. These cars are detuned from the factory.

Holy thread resurrection Batman, back 2 years later.

There is not that much difference between an NB and a WB - 1" per side.

There's also nothing narrow about a narrow body 997, like this one.

997s it's easy to list the NB models - there are only 3 and everything else is Widebody. NB models are the C2, C2S, & regular GT3 (not the RS). Everything else is WB.

996s are more confusing as the S models are widebody like the C2S and and the C4S whereas the C2 and C4 are NB. This is different than the 997.
