This morning as I was driving to work I glanced down at the dash and see "Check Engine Oil Level" on the driver's readout. I clear it and the red "!" pops up. So, I pull over into a parking lot and go through the check oil procedure. Expecting to see a need to add oil, I am surprised to see the oil level reading is completely maxed out. I mean, way above full. I had been on the road about 20 minutes in traffic that maybe averaged 45 mph.

I had the oil and filter changed about 3 months/800 miles ago. The indicated oil level at that time was up to the last mark on the readout which seemed exactly right for 8 qts and a filter. What caused this morning's strange reading? An indication of pending doom?

The rest of the drive was uneventful. We'll see what this evening's drive home entails.
