09 C4S or 08 Turbo
09 C4S or 08 Turbo
I have driven both but cant make up my mind. Here are the details:
09 C4S, 4k miles, PDK, full leather, loaded. 3.5 years of warranty
08 Turbo, 4k miles, Tip, CPO. 3 years of warranty.
Car will be daily driver. Turbo is 10,000 more.

I would advise against the 08 turbo with tiptronic, i think the depreciation will be way worse.
plus if your spending that kind of money on a car that will be a daily driver, you should get exactly what you want, not have to decide between the two,

Thanks for the reply. I have driven both and they are certainly different - C4S has more tech stuff (PDK, XM, Bluetooth) while turbo has more raw power.
I know this is really a personal decision but just trying to get some input.
Thanks again.

I agree. Really dont like the steering wheel buttons and prefer the paddle shifter arrangement. Could always replace the wheel if big issue.
+1. I'd do the C4S.
C4S without a doubt.
Maybe drive a newer with the PDK and I think you will see what the car could be but isn't. The PDK 4S willl be amazing.

yes, i mean you really cant go wrong. I havent driven C4S but my father just bought a 09 911 turbo 6 speed and have driven the PDK panamera - so i assume combining the two would be amazing. Is a '10 turbo pdk totally out of the budget? mabye in a few months when they depreciate?
all the new Double clutch transmissions are amazing though, even the new jettas!
I vote C4S- I think C4S is more the enthusiasts choice and you will enjoy it more down the road !

Dont really want to spend that much on new turbo but they sure do depreciate quickly. That brings up a whole other question - Wait for a few months/year until Turbo PDK's are in the low 100,000's?

I have heard very little positive of the tiptronic but have heard and experienced a lot of positives for the PDK. Between the 2 cars you mentioned I would definitley get the c4s. But if you could wait for the 2010 pdk turbo to come down in price then that would be the best choice. If you cant wait then consider the 6speed turbo 07 or 08 instead of tip.
For those exact two cars, yes the C4S PDK. But I agree as already mentioned, that for the same price point as the PDK you're looking at an '07 Turbo 6spd, which there are a lot to chose from. I'm in this situation myself, trying to decide between those two and keep going back and forth. A win win situation for sure, but VERY hard to decide.
I've driven an 09 C4S PDK, 07 Turbo 6 speed.... and 07 Turbo Tip (which I really did not find fun to drive, the Tip removes you from the driving experience too much). For those first two great options, here are my thoughts so far, which have led to no conclusion yet:
- C4S PDK is more fun 0-100 mph due to the "stomp on it" ability, and launch control is just bonus. Easy to blast of the line (while still in legal speed limits). Enhanced electronics inside are nice too, but not the reason I'm getting one of these cars. And replace that steering wheel for one with paddles day one.
- Turbo is the king for fun 100-200 mph, and is a true rocket ship. Amazingly solid at high speeds, and so easy to drive fast that risking speeding tickets in the "jail time if caught" category might be a reality. It was harder for me personally to floor it off the line because it just has so much power that it's difficult to control in first gear (you're in 1st for like one second). On my extended test drive, 3rd gear and beyond were pure magic. I'm sure with practice it would be easier off the line, but never as easy from a stand still as the PDK.
- For pure value (how much car you are getting, and how much it will depreciate over the time you own it) the Turbo has to be the winner here, having taken the greatest percentage depreciation hit already. And since it's likely the owners second/third car, it still has low miles, even if being an '07.
Good luck in your decision, and be sure to enjoy the process.

I have heard very little positive of the tiptronic but have heard and experienced a lot of positives for the PDK.
The questions I had then were :
1) is Porsche planning to clear away all these old parts to make way for PDK ?
2)did they deliberately build a car just a tad bit faster to sell those parts ?
3) why didn't they test the manual with the axle lock option in the 0-60 too ?
4)who pays these jornalists ?
So now no one wants the Tip.
The questions I have now are
How long will it take for no one to want this current version of PDK in favor of an improved version ?
That's the problem with technology . It often becomes dated so quickly that both the engine and the styling can't evolve at the same fast rate .Is Porsche goiung the route of BMW (where a 7 series still looks similar but the i drive of 2002 is an antique) ?
A manual is timeless . It is a piece of equipment which even if it's dated it doesn't matter because it's history stems out for decades and even in the future it will be regarded as a benchmark of tradition. Add to that the fact that the Gt1 dry sump Turbo engine had a 16 year run of success . Add to that --the car is very fast and can be modified to extreme levels while retaining reliability.
These are all the thoughts , questions and ideas which for me make the 07 Turbo the best bang for the long term buck at this price level.
