Red face straight answer

ok.....I bought some Damptronics for my car( PASM) c4s....I called my only local dealer and they said they need thin VIN to give an estimate of hours needed to change them. BS.... I called the next dealer closest and they say 3.8 hours for the back with no answer on the fronts. Can someone tell me how long it takes with alignment and without?

Thanks for looking

Jim

I think that my car was 4 hours plus the alignment and corner balance, but that is a C2S, so maybe it is quicker since no 4WD.

One thing to note, the Damptronics need to be driven, they don't make the car any nicer to sit in when it is parked in your garage!

i can tell you even better.
standard charge for shocks install is $1K plus $250 for alignment and corner balancing.

if you 'also' want to replace dogbones, ask mechanic to make new droplinks, put new upper mounts and extra/extra/extra - discuss it with him.

local dealer is only limited in its quote by its greed plusi would not trust blindly to dealers mechanic unless you know him personally and sure about him. dealership I use has 1 (one) reputable mechanic in its staff and that guy works on engines only. suspension jobs gets done there by morons.

I would choose wisely to whom to give this job - look around for a VERY reputable shop, ask local racers at PCA events whom do they trust and you`ll be amazed by amount of info you`ll get - who does good job, who does bad job, who uses good parts, who only cares to get your money, who overcharges and who does not.
usually the cheapest places are not those where you want you custom suspension to be built. plus some mechanics specialize in old p-cars, some do mostly cup cars, you need to find preferrably somebody who works on 996/997 gt3 cars often enough so he knows what parts to use, what springs to use, what springs hats to use, etc. there are some details there.

I had some suspension replacement upgrades on a 2S. Damptronics, rear upper control arms, toe steer kits both ends, both sway bars & all drop links. Alignment, but no corner balance. Just over $1400 labor.

If you are handy with a wrench you could consider doing the install yourself. I just put KW v3 CO's in my car this weekend. Took me about 8 hours since I like to take my time (to avoid causing damage...). Half of that time was spent figuring out how everything came apart (the front's are more complex than the rears).

Going in for corner balance & alignment tomorrow. They said ~3 hours for that.

+1 I swapped the springs on my car last year and it was ridiculously easy.
