Detailing/Polishing the Paint... how soon for fresh paint?

I'm not detailer... but with care and most of the day, I think I can do this.

I was looking at this kit:

Its about $250 bucks or $300 if upgrading to the M205 cutting compound...

All the buffing pads and the buffer are included....

I'm having the hood and new bumper on my 997 repainted in gloss black... I'm picking the car up in about 10 days.

How soon can I detail the paint on this car... the hood and rear bumper are new paint, the rest of the car is a year old? 30 days, 60 days for the new paint to cure?

I was thinking of going to detailer's domain... but I need a kit like this that is pretty much idiot proof.

Thanks, Mark

At a minimum I wouldn't polish the new paint for at least 3 months and preferably longer than that as it will not be as hard as the original paint job on the car. As for the remainder of the car you could polish, glaze and wax it but be carefully with cutting compound. A car that's only a year old shouldn't need anything more abrasive than a mild polish and good quality wax. Would strongly suggest a thorough wash, claying and a then second washing of the car before you start polishing it. This will insure nothing is on the surface of the paint when you take the electric polisher to it.

You would be much better off getting a flex, some menzerna polish, and some lake county pads. Talk to Moe in the detailing section.

Ask your body shop. My shop recommended waiting 60 days before applying wax.
