Porsche gets a knock for this, and I've seen the comments from that Top Gear guy. Keep in mind that the BMW 3 series has 18 variants by my count:

22 doesn't sound that much different than 18, IMHO. I was thinking of other models that probably have a similar number of variants, and Chevys would come to mind. Take the large SUV for example. Think 2 WD and 4WD, Suburban and Tahoe, 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton... That's 16 right there, but then add in 3 different engines and you have 48 variations right there, even though they might not all show up as separate models on the configurator. What about Z71 and other model variants??? In my mind, that's just semantics, mostly, with a bit of marketing, differentiating Porsche and the Chevy examples. Maybe the 911 is just more hi-profile?
I say Porsche gets called out on this unnecessarily, but who cares what I think!

And, that triple winged GT2 RS GT3 RS GTS RS 4S GT is where I'm putting my money down for my next 911. Why only three wings? Hehehehe... love it.
