997 carerra rear spoiler question

Hello all. i was thinking of getting a 997.1 GT3 rear wing or 997.1 Turbo rear wing for a 997.1 carerra. I would like to stick with OEM if possible but don't really want to spend an arm and a leg for it. I was wondering if anybody knew of a Porsche dismantler or wrecking yard that was reputable or if anybody has good feedback with a replica spoiler. Thanks!

I know there are some threads about the turbo rear wing. At least one person has done it . . . but I think it was more like an arm and 2 legs. Considering all the moving parts, I'm sure that wing and its installation is thousands.

It's possible, but you'd have to get very lucky to uncover an OEM wing for less than and arm and a leg. Essentially, you'd have to find someone who does not know what it's worth and is willing and capable of selling it to you.

I once had a replica GT2 wing on my tt, but I was not happy with how meager it felt, and it did not hold the paint well - but that was just my experience.

And just FYI for anyone, a 997.1 tt wing will fit a 997.2 NB -- just needs an extra strut support and some duct redirecting -- which just in itself is not cheap.

Thank you for that info. I found a guy on ebay who is selling a complete 997TT rear trunk lid and wing for $2500. I'm just not sure if that is all i need or will i need another $XXXXX to make it work

Not a bad price assuming the wing is in great shape. You'll need a wiring harness and some other bits. Paint (if different color), install time, etc. I have a post somewhere that you can dig up with the entire inventory of Porsche parts that you'll need. I don't know how much it cost me as it was done with some other mods and I never look at the itemization as I trust the service manager.

My guess:

$2,500 wing
$500 additional parts
$500 paint
$500 for margin of error

$4K total probably.

Lol..I like the margin of error Quote included. Basically i am not worried about the paint and install part as i have that covered but more so about the additional parts. I already see i would need to replace the panel where the 3rd brake lamp goes as on a 997TT the light is on the spoiler and not on the cowl as a regular 997

I think the best chance anybody would have for something like this would be if you personally knew the insurance appraiser in your city. Or if you had something to offer/barter with him for him to turn a blind eye and let you have the part for a penny and a song.

I was going to do this. I even had a buddy that was selling a TT wing that was the same color as my car. I still would have needed a new brake light, fan housing and custom fabbed mounting clips, plus you have to add an aftermarket intake as the stock one will hit the hydraulic rams that raise the spoiler.

You'll also need an installer that knows how to wire everything up so that the spoiler raises/lowers at speed and wire brake lights up.

Member Mick Fluff has done this and he wrote a great thread about it. Do a search for it.

I figured a ballpark cost was going to be about $6K and that did not include painting.

The turbo decklid will not fit because the entire decklid is a different size and shape.

We make some of the best quality spoilers for porsches. We have the GT3 replica and have our own spoilers that resemble the GT2 spoiler but for non-turbo models. Take a look at our sites. www.mishadesigns.com

PM me for more info and pricing. We have special pricing for our 6speed members.

997.1 turbo = 997.2 NB decklid.

Not certain if 997.1 turbo <> 997.1 NB but that would surprise me if true.

If you are going OEM, which is the only way I'd recommend going, you will spend and arm and a leg.. its just a mater of the what size arm and leg.

The Turbo wing is the ideal, but there are lots of modding costs involved in getting the air intake to line up with the 997.1 intake ports, from what I recall from a thread someone did on their mod of that type.

For the fixed wing, its probably hard to find the part for a car that is not that common (the GT3)... and then the pricing is still high.

Interesting. I thought i read somewhere that unlike the 996's that all 997's shared the same size trunklid and that only the undertray was different. I will visit your website and see what is available. Thanks!

Misha GT2M wing. Looks like the GT2 wing, is well made, reasonably priced, and great looking.
