Smile Plan to order a 2011 GTS

Hello everyone,

This is my first time to post here. I am from Abu Dhabi U.A.E. I am planning to purchase my first 911 and I am interested in the new GTS that they will be offering. I havent driven a 911 before and I never tried their PDK transmission.

How does the PDK react what I mean is some vehicles do have a manual/auto type transmission on their cars but they are not truly that. What I am trying to say is that even in manual mode the vehicle will automatically shift if you reach high revs or red line. Does the PDK do the same or will it hang in there until you tell it to shift?

Currently I have a 2009 Range Rover, a 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo Manual Transmission and a 2008 F430 with paddle shifts.

Speaking of paddle shifts will the GTS in PDK format have the paddle shifters behind the steering wheel or the weird buttons on the steering wheel like the Cayenne??

thanks for your time

from my limited understanding it will hang in there to a point but will shift up at the redline.

I don't have a PDK and my GTS order is for a 6MT. However, my recollection is that in one mode, it will shift at redline while in another mode it will not (with PDK and Sport Chrono, you have normal/sport/sport plus modes - without Sport Chrono I think you have normal/sport). However, outside of redline it should not shift on its own in Manual mode.

The PDK is a dual clutch manual, not a computer controlled automatic (with torque converter) like in my AMG. I can't remember if the 430 has a dual clutch or not, but the California and 599 do. The PDK 911 will drive exactly like the California, for instance.

Of course we do, but it's been covered to death on here.

How about you do some basic research first.

I haven't driven a PDK but the questions you are asking would be easily answered by reading a few magazine reviews of the 911 with the PDK. Every auto publication covered it's debut so do a little research and you will find your answer.

There are two different sport buttons on cars equipped with the PDK trans. At least my fathers base cabriolet has two sport buttons. In the Super sport mode it will not shift unless you either press the upshift button on the steering wheel or use the gear selector to shift. In the standard sport mode, it will eventually shift for you.

what kind of weired (and rude) comment is that - have you ever been in the Middle East and dealt with a car dealer?
The board is to help people with their questions and I think he was very straight forward with his postings ...

Porsche won't let you over rev the engine - both manual mode or automatic (a good thing in my humble opinion)

In D mode (auto) it will shift at redline in Sport Chrono (SC) Sport Plus mode and in Normal or Sport modes if you drive aggressively.

In M mode (manual) it will bump the rev limiter at redline and will wait for you to upshift. When braking it will downshift (even in M mode) as defined by the stall rev level.

If you order PDK I suggest you also order SC.

The PDK is so fast. Can't really go wrong with either.
