DIY On Porsche OEM Satellite Radio Install
#16
Some Porsche dealers have the ability to do this as do high end auto sound shops. Tell us where you're located and I'm sure you'll get some references.

I documented my setup based on my model a 2007 997.1 C4S with BOSE/CDC & Nav setup. I would say mine is probably "worst case" as there we more components to deal with.
As for installers...I have heard some go to dealers and various aftermarket shops but I am not familiar with any nor do I trust my "baby" in the hands of another. I am very comfortable with taking car panels apart and electrical work so my preference was to find my own way.

Now if only there was someone to retrofit auto-dimming mirrors to my car... (which seems like an impossibility)

20% Off Winter Savings eCoupon
Thought I share with the group but Porsche is offering 20% off parts with coupon. Here is link from local dealer but all dealers honor coupon as it's sponsored from Porsche. This is a similar coupon I used when purchasing parts I needed for my Sat setup.

Late thread pick up What harness for sat radio if no cdc
Also wondered if a harness was required for sat radio if i didn't have a cd changer but did have a dension unit? And if a harness was required which one?
Side note: Just installed the dension blue tooth add on for the dension unit and it works GREAT with my iphone 3GS!

I believe there is a "Non-CDC" equivalent part number to the one I used (see below) was Part # 955.044.900.81 but check with dealer as I think part number has been updated.
Part # 955.044.900.65 - Harness for installs w/ CD Changer - Provides MOST Fiber loop & Power adapter
Because you have a Dension unit, would still think you'd need the same harness as if you had a CDC simply because your Denison is using the power & MOST connectors the CDC would have used....that is unless you installed the Denison inside the CAB behind the PCM...

Glad the doc will help you. As a side note, I recommend you tear into your frunk to determine your current setup compared to mine so that if you need different wireing harness, you don't waste funds on a useless cable.....like I did! Before finally figuring out the right setup needed.
Go for it, you'll love it in the end!

This is in response to a few questions from a fellow forum member, "Z356", that other have asked me privately and felt it would be good to post here for others to share.
---Z356 Original Question---
I have a 2007 997.1 with PCM 2.1, no Nav, no CD changer. I have Bose. I was told the only way to get SAT radio via PCM is to get XM Radio Retrofit from Cayenne, which Suncoast sells at $769. And its not Sirius. So how is it that you can get all of these Sirius parts and the total cost of the set up is under $400. I am totally un-technical so I will have a local auto stereo shop in California do it. But I need to tell them the best set up for my particular PCM. Any guidance you can give me will be appreciated. Regards, (z356)
----[End]
I was given the same answer when I first started my inquires...but as you can see from my document (I emailed it to you), it is POSSIBLE!
First the Cayenne kit has a number of components that aren't necessary for our setup but what it gave me was insight into how to integrate and what is necessary to do so. Having an engineering background (in a former life) it wasn't hard for me to reverse engineer the solution from there.
From that point on, with a little testing and tweaking I found the right solution and produced the document to share with others looking to do the same (but without all the cost & mystery)!
My recommendation is you read through my doc a few times as EVERYTHING (part numbers, suppliers, etc..) is all laid out for you. Second if you are not comfortable with working on the electronics of your car, find a shop that has experience in working on P-cars with a PCM setup. (Anything prior to our PCM did not use the "MOST" system (Fiber optic signaling BUS system. Once you have found the installer you are comfortable with, give them my doc and review with installer. (Discuss EVERYTHING and leave nothing to "interpretation". It's your car and your money!)
I know it can all seem quite intimidating at first but as with anything, the more familiar you become with it, the more comfortable you will become.

The parts are "universal". Meaning the tuner (as per my doc) is the same tuner used for all P-Cars.
