Brake Calipers - Powder Coating near Atlanta?
Brake Calipers - Powder Coating near Atlanta?
I just talked with Performance Collision in Alpharetta... they did a FANTASTIC job on painting my bumper and hood.
However, they told me they don't paint calipers as because they get so hot, the paint will flake off... he said they need to be powder coated as this is how they come from the Porsche Factory.
So, any recommendations for the Atlanta area?
Thanks,
Mark

Northvan,
I contacted Miller Powder Coating in Lilburn... they quoted me $25-30 bucks a caliper. But I have to bring them in stripped.
The link you gave me... $499 for Calipers... but hey, if you want it done right... Have you seen their work?
OMG! These are absolutely wicked! Red Chrome!!!!

I'm thinking of going with these!
Thanks for the link

How hard is it to remove the Caliipers yourself? I've never done this and have no idea what's involved...
I've got the garage space, I was thinking I could put the car on floor jacks, remove the wheels and pull the calipers off myself if its simply using a hex socket wrench I can do that...
But if there's hoses with with leaking brake fluid and if a brake fluid flush/refill is required after... I'm gonna need help with that.

Calipers are two bolts, and a brake fluid line to remove. To strip you will most likely need to remove the pistons and the boots that prevent dust from getting in. Then put them back together and reinstall.
My advice is to have someone do it for you, as it can be a messy job if you haven't done it before. Also brake fluid is nasty stuff for paint.
Does this shop that quoted you a price have a website? I have a complete 2nd set of calipers that I want to get refinished (then I was going to rebuild the brake calipers my self as a winter project).

Im not sure how comfortable you are with little DIY mods but painting calipers with the correct hi temp paint etc is a cheap and easy little job that usually always turns out great. I was ready to shell out $1100 to my local porsche dealer to powdercoat mine yellow when a buddy finally pushed me enough to do it myself and they turned out awesome and saved me a grand. Which I put into more enjoyable mods. I live in FL where it gets brutally hot and the paint has held up perfectly fine. Just throwing it out there.
I appreciate the comments here, I'm comfortable with DIY to the point of unbolt this bolt this back in...
But brakes sound a little more than I can do, my luck, I'd get an air bubble back in the line... etc...
Yes, Miller has a website:
http://millerpowdercoating.com/ I found them with a google search... same thing, he said to remove the calipers/pistons/etc... send them stripped. They will media blast them, powder coat to your paint selection. I don't know about putting a Porsche decal on then clear coating over, but I'm sure it could be done.
Mr. Miller quoted me $25 - 30 bucks a caliper. He said they like to do them in batches, so he said a 7-10 day turn around time. As for paint, I kinda got the impression that glossy red is red. You and I would likely have to pay extra to get "Guard's Red" true OEM Paint, and then again a little extra for the single paint batch project.
Even so, a couple hundred bucks for powder coating is still better than $500.

I have done that before on my Wrx, well, I didn't even bother take it off, what I did was simply removed the wheel, closed my garage door to prevent the wind blow the paint all over my car and paint with the brake on my car, because its a WRx, i didn't care.
but it did look great with 3 layer of paint and 3 layers of clear coat.
but, its 911,so..
just throwing your option out there.

That's too funny.... Another Service guy who preaches what he knows little about....
The caliper show below was tracked not less than 3-days after they came out of the booth at least three years ago maybe four...They do not come from the Porsche factory PC, this guy is silly
, don't let them fool you into something they know nothing about...Thank you guys for the recommendations, if you want it done right we are always here to assist,

Call Arthur or Dave at Dynolabs in Marietta. Dave will get anything you want powder coated. He's an absolute perfectionist, too.
And yes, you can paint the calipers, apply a Porsche decal, then clear over it. I did that on a 996 I had a few years ago, and it came out perfect. Great opp to flush your brake fluid, which you should do every 1-2 years anyway.
