Used 997 pricing
Used 997 pricing
I was just curious how accurate places like NADA, KBB, etc are on 997 pricing. I am looking at 2007-2008 models, and I'd like to know if they are way off base or not. The most recent car I looked at was a 2007 C2S with 18k miles and very few options. The Porsche dealer had it at $56k non-CPO, which I thought was maybe a tad high, and I bet I could get them to come off a little. Thanks!
Forget about NADA and KBB, look on Autotrader or any of the larger used car sites. That will give you a better idea of real market prices for these cars. The color combo, options, overall condition, rarity and mileage on the car determine its resale value. They are also influenced by the time of year with early to mid-Spring traditionally being the high water mark for asking prices. As for your price, dependent on all of the above, it appears to be "reasonable" for C2S - CPO car if it is in excellent condition.
I'm not sure why, but you can't rely on online pricing guides to be accurate for 911s. I found that you can only get a sense of a 'good' deal by studying the market for a few months. That means watching auto-trader to see what sells fast, and getting transaction details when possible. I would also exclude Porsche dealer pricing from your research, as they always skew high.
Today NADA says my 06 is worth 58K; last Spring when I was going to upgrade I could not get even a sniff at 53K. Bottom line right now, I'm afraid, is thet there is not a hell of a market for used 50k cars so the data base is too small to provide meaningful conclusions. My guess, and that's all it is, would be to take the 'average' trade in price and then refuse to go more than 10% over this.
If the 07 you mentioned were in pretty good shape the Dealer would have CPO'd it, which is worth maybe $2,500; since he did not it suggests that you'll probably need tires and a few other goodies fairly soon, plus no warranty.
