IMHO: not a huge fan of cab look with soft top up, thing Targa is gimmicky, heavy and impractical, I say coupe!

Targa has much better visibility than Cab with Top Up does.
Targa top can be closed at speed if you need to take a call or have a conversation or it starts to rain.
Targa gets looks - not many around.
The Targa top creaks a bit - it racks when entering driveways/small bumps at an angle and sometimes a bit when its cold. Has not bothered me though.
I thought I'd use the glass hatch more than I do. It is a bit of a reach and I don't want to scratch paint.

If you live in a place where you can go top down alot, I'd get a Cab. If the weather is more variable, than a Targa is more versatile.
I agree entirely. I had a cab, then a Targa, then returned to a cab again (all 997's). Had I not lived in a perfect climate (Southern Cal) I would have kept the Targa. I had little creaking in the Targa, and was always able to fix it by wiping a little silicone spray on the weatherstrip along front and rear edges of the sliding top. In my experience, the Targas depreciate faster than cabs. Good luck in your decision making.

Glad that you asked for opinions.

For what it's worth, I absolutely LOVE my 997.2 Targa. And I wasn't the least bit on the fence or impartial. I loved both of my 993 Targas as well, and, in comparison, they were terrible with respect to sealing. I had two '97's and neither top sealed well. BUT, and it's a big but, the driving experience was great.

Fast forward to my 2009 Targa 4S, and basically all of the problems are gone. The top seals well as speed and with the top closed, it's as (or more) quiet than my 996 C4S coupe was.

The benefits are huge. I don't think the operable rear glass is a big feature, but I do find the interior to be a great environment either with the top open or closed. It just feels so spacious - it's a very unique feeling.

No, the Targa will never be a coupe or a cab, but it will always be a Targa, and that's what you're buying. IMO, it's not trying to be either. The experience with the top open is not the same...or really even similar to driving a cab, but it's awfully good. And with the top closed, for me, it's much better than driving a coupe.

I also think that that the car is just stunning in person.

Obviously, this decision is one of personal preference and I suspect how you plan to use the car matters a great deal in the decision, but, for what it's worth, I couldn't be happier about my choice.

The back seats in the cab are stupid and useless for anything but short trips and the tiniest of people. There is very little room back there (regardless of booster seat style or person's height).

If kiddie-moving is a daily requirement...a coupe or targa will be more practical. (I can't believe I just used the P-word in this forum.) ...but a 911 shouldn't be about comprimise - Get what you want. You only live once. If you want a cab, let the kids suffer back there!

obviously my vote goes for the cab..

not because i own a cab right now... since the selecting the specific 911 model was considered before i made my purchase.

for me, the cab opens up a whole new world that u cannot experience in the coupe/targa.

everytime i drive with the top down, i am reassured that i made a correct decision for me.

BOL, u can't go wrong with either..

I love my Targa...but I only bought the style, because I get so much snow and I wanted the biggest sun roof possible. If it isn't too humid in your part of texas, then get a cab.

I can't comment on the back seats, as mine have been flipped in the same position, since I drove off the lot.

I enjoy my Targa because I prefer coupe's but get a bit of a more open feel in the Targa. It also has the very convenient back hatch.

Even better, Targa's are a very rare sighting. You feel a little more unique driving around in one.

I always love the 'it's too heavy' objection.
The Targa is 132 lbs heavier than the C4 coupe, about a 4% gain.
The Cab 4 is 187 lbs heavier than the C4 coupe, a 5.8% gain.
The Targa is stiffer than the Cab.
(As if any of those things make a difference.)
Terrific cars. How fortunate we are to be able to enjoy them.
Grab the one that suits you best. Good luck with it.

I never considered a Targa..... Don't even know why? What I really wanted was the Cab. but my wife is not a real big fan of convertibles...

I didn't even see a Targa on any of the lots that I went to. Maybe if I saw one "up close and personal" it may have been worth considering...
We love the coupe that we ended up with...

I love my cab. I sat in a Targa..but it reminded me a little of the "fishbowl" conference room in my office. I like the top all the way down.

If you drive with your kids, forget the cab ! Too much wind at rear at more than 60km/h !!!
The Targa is a very pratical car with the sky on the head.
The coupe with the sliding roof is great.

I had a 996 targa and now the 997 with slinding roof.

I find it odd, too... Regarding frame stiffness, I can barely feel the difference in the new 911's. (There was certainly a major difference before the 996/7 models).

Just wondering...what would give a bigger advantage for 911 "twisty/tight track" performance comparison b/w targa and cab models....(a) Shedding a few pounds (targa) or (b) having a lower center of gravity (cab)? With both a cab-top down or targa top slid back....I think the targa has a higher center of gravity than a cabriolet..... and thus have a little more roll/understeer? Or are we splitting hairs at this point, as both cars can be F'ing fast!

To me, the difference between these models is insignificant compared to the difference in driver skills. It is like the performance difference between cars that may have a 15 hp difference in power: it essentially means nothing in real life performance results. IMO, worrying about the added weight or theoretical reduced chassis stiffness between models is a waste of time except for the most expert drivers (which are few in number).
