997.2 rear window tint
When I purchase my 997.2 new, dealer sold me the tint and told me how great their installer is. When I pick up the car, I immediately notice the "ugly dog bitten" edge due to the dots. I asked the dealer can that be fixed. They basicly told me they will try their best, but can not guarantee. So I walked around the dealer lot and tried to see if other cars had same issues. I found some couple years old used porsches and took a look. I can tell you, they all got the same problem on the dotted edge, and got worse due to the time. So I made the decision to have the dealer remove the tint right away. Dealer did refund me, but I had to pay $200 for removal. That sucks. But, I know I can not stand it.
to OP, if it bother you that much and start the thread for this, I think you should just remove the tint.

Guys is it really that bad??? I just got my 997.2 its Silver its my 1st coupe and I want to tint it this winter, I know some are more **** than others im prob in between. I mean if its that bad and noticable im allset, but if we are talking its not 110% purrrrfection ok.
Nice to see this thread revived. Its not 'that bad', it just isn't perfect. Look around for a tinted car and see if it would bother you-probably not. So far, the idea of the black out strip sounds like the best 'fix' (some might consider this fixing a non-problem) Come on down Florida and check mine out! james

Here you go guys. I had to take about 20 pics to show you how it looks. Not that big of a deal to me. In TX you gotta have tints. 89 degrees in Del Rio today. You see my point. Good luck. Sounds like there are some solutions out there. Just a matter if you are willing to sand or pay a hell of a lot more to have your windows tinted.

Because this is my first P-car and I've only had it for a week, I can tell you, most people are not staring at the 3/4 inch strip at the bottom of your back windshield. They're staring at the rest of the car!
When i get my cars tinted, after a few days, I usually run a my finger along those dots and push the tint down so that the adhesive sticks to the window reducing the rough looking edge like the one in the picture. If you can't get your finger in there, use a credit card.
I had mine tinted at 35% not long before I put it into storage. I was told by the installer that it would never be perfect and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying. Any little piece of dust and the dot matrix along the windows prevent perfection from being attained. With this information, I went ahead with the tint even though my OCD was telling me otherwise.
When the car was finished, it was delivered to me and I was ecstatic as the car looked so sweet pulling up with the tint. It wasn’t until I got really close (mainly the rear) and inspected the tint that I started to doubt my decision. The installer suggested I go see him in a week and he’ll massage the film along the dot matrix as the glue was still drying. I decided to give it a week as this would allow me to inspect other cars and compare them to mine and also get used to the “imperfection”.
During the course of the week, I inspected 40+ cars only to realize that tint was actually really good along the dot matrix when compared to all the other cars. After he massaged the film a week or so later, it was definitely improved. It does look much more even than the tint in Recalcitrant’s pictures. It’s still not 100% and never will be.
When I decided I would be getting my windows tinted, I did a lot a calling around to find the best guy. Nobody works for free but some have a real passion for what they do. When I dropped the car off, I gave him the keys and told him to call me when it was done. This way, he was never rushed as he had no deadline to contend with. I did pay a bit more but as they say, you get what you pay for. He has also told me to come back in the spring and have the area over the dot matrix massaged again.
As a few have mentioned, everyone looks at the Porsche and not the little “imperfection” around the window edge. We often forget what it was like before we owned a Porsche and saw one in the parking lot or drive by…
