997.1 C2S converted to turbo bumper
yeah Ryan when I had my c4s, it was a nightmare
because at the time no one was doing it, but now its pretty common, and I found the right people to fix that problem which is one of the board sponsor A.I design in Tuckahoe NY. Safe to say they only work on high end car ex: Mclaren, Bugatti's, Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, Bentleys, Porsche's etc......Ask for Todd or Matt, good guys.
I must say the scramble of finding someone to do it, and not only do it, but also to do a professional job was the only nightmare, after that it was smooth sailing, no check engine or other lights came on in the vehicle. Thats why you have to be careful who you have work on your car. I did my research and PePe Porsche deals with them all the time to handle all their aftermarket needs, so safe to say I was going into this knowing my baby was in good hands with them. A.I design took good care of me, and the total cost wasn't too costly for the outcome of the new led look........
@ NYC_Z06 Yeah Im waiting for the new 991's (998's) to come out, I have my eyes set on that, they should be here by next summer

Thanks for the comments guys, as I just got the new control module from the Dealer ( again ) yet I'm still unsuccessful. RVH, any chance you can share the info on how you did yours? I would really appreciate it. It would be nice to be able to signal people in front what direction I'm going..lol

In case anyone else is worried about the electronics related to the LEDs, I also got them to work with no problems at all. I have had my turbo front end on for a few weeks now and I have not had one error message. I also have HID fogs, which my electronics shop also had to create the proper resistance for. To all who are fearful of taking this project on, rest assured it can be done. And it looks great! It's probably also worth mentioning that there is no pre-made wiring harness needed. I'm not sure if one even exists but all the various "modules" that dealers and shops have recommended to other 6speeders are completely unnecessary. My shop created their own harness and even kept my original wiring and plugs intact, in case I ever want to put my old bumper back. Everything was fabricated and installed in one day.
Well, your best bet is to find the bumper used from a Turbo owner who is doing a conversion him/herself. Between the bumper, paint and install you are probably looking at somewhere in the range of 3-4k I'm probably in about 4k myself, maybe slightly less. But it looks and works great!
What's up Stan,
I am unable to message you because I'm new to the forum..
I noticed that you did the Turbo Bumper conversion and you're in the Bay Area.... I live in San Jose and I want to do the same mod ASAP! It seems a bit complicated and I'm not sure exactly what parts are needed to make this work. Do you have a parts list of what you need to make the conversion? Some people say you need all these modules and wiring harnesses but some say they aren't necessary.. I would truly appreciate it if you could give me a little insight on how to do this because your car looks amazing! I have a 2005 Carrera (arctic silver) and am really looking forward to making this happen. Also, What body shop did the work?
Thanks for your time,
Dan

Hi Dan,
This is a really easy mod and it can be done relatively pain free as long as you have the right people. All the complication you read about is due to the fact that most have the expectation that everything is plug and play. The fact is, most of it is but you'll need to have some custom wiring done which most reputable electronic shops can easily do.
For the parts, all you need is to find a used Turbo bumper cover. When I was looking there were quite a few on ebay and even a few on craigslist. Make sure you find one with the LED blinkers bc those can be expensive if you need to buy they from the dealer. But that is all you need partswise. The cover itself is literally plug and play. Oh, one more thing you may want are two front fenderwell covers. I didn't get any so there is a slight opening on the edges of my front fenderwells (it doesn't bother me too much). The turbo front is wider than our stock covers because of the driving lights.
As you have likely found out from the board, the most complicated part is the electronics. You essentially have to "trick" the car's computer into thinking that nothing has changed voltage-wise. This is done using resistors (4 ohm I think!) and should be no problem for anyone that understands what they are doing. If the electronics people don't know what they are doing, as it seems to be the case with many on the board, then they will have problems matching the wattage on the LED blinkers (<1 watt) and the driving lights (stock are 45 watt and turbo are 65 watt). The shop I used is Audiomobile in Oakland. They connected everything up; LED blinkers, Techart DRLs, and I addded HID ballasts for the driving lights - with no problems whatsoever. They even left my stock wiring harness intact, on the car, in case I ever want to change it back to stock.
What I would recommend is that you get the parts, bring it to Audiomobile (or an electronics shop of your choice), have them do the electronics and mount the front end. After they mount it, you can just drive your car to whatever paint shop you want to use and hand it off to them. For paint, I used Turbo Autobody in Oakland. It's owned by a friend of mine and although it is not the shop that I would typically bring my porsche or mercedes to, they did a very good job.
Feel free to email with any additional questions!

I just did the front bumper conversion. My only problem was the autobody shop that I was using couldnt figure out how to wire it up because they didnt have a good electrical guy. I got pretty lucky because the shop ended up having my car for the week and they felt bad so they didnt charge me to mount and paint the bumper
. All I need now is a new tow cap cover and my car is going out thursday to a local shop that builds race cars to do the wiring.
Here was my cost breakdown....
Turbo Front Bumper with fog lights and grilles - $400 (yes 400 lol )
LED DRLs from vivid - $1000
Paint and installation for bumper - $0
Wiring for lights - Approx $200...ill find out on Thursday
Front lower spoiler - $189 ( and I wrapped it in carbon fiber vinyl
