Gremlins on the dashboard.Help!
Lately i hear some rattles behind the dashboard, somewhere between the ''chrono wathch'' and the back of the glovebox.
I have just covered 3000 km (it's a 997S) and it's getting worse as i pass over bumps. The dealer can't find where the rattle comes from. Is anyone out there with the same problem?
Please help.

Years ago this was often caused by airbag related stuff on the passenger side of the dash. Glad to see Porsche is consistent. Must have emptied the old parts bin for that one.

Did you drive along with the service tech? That would be the best way to try to id these problems. Probably some insulation up under there that can solve this, unless something is really loose.

zoltan they all have a creaky little gremlin somewhere - unless you really pull apart the dashboard and do some kind of insulation (not OEm) there will always be something
get an exhaust system or turn the radio up

I had the same problem. I took the vehicle back four times and the dealer could not find it. After about 2 hours, I cured the noise. My problem was coming from the glove box side of the dash. I isolated it down to a rattle coming from behind the far cup holder. If you open the glove box and the cup holder panel, you will notice a seam between the top dash section and the bottom. Insert a flat blade screw driver and gently push in. Check to see if the noise is gone. Mine was. I inserted a piece of foam approx 2" wide by 1/4" thick and remove the screw driver. The dash has been quiet since. I also used felt around the gauge cluster and removed the cig lighter, all sources of rattles.
PM me and I can take a couple digital pics if you like. It cured my issue.
Kind of sad for an $80K+ car. My Scion doesnt rattle at all and cost only slightly more than a Bic razor.

thanx for the advice roadking.
By the way, Toyota's do not rattle... especially at these areas.
My previous M3 E46 was a drifters delight (too much stress on the joints) and it was extremely silent

Porsche always rattles, when you buy a Cayenne, you drive it home, it will rattle on the way home... Get an exhaust and you will be fine

Deetz, i' ve driven several Porsches but this is my first own Porsche and i haven't noticed that before. If teutonic Porsche always rattle so what can you expect from a latin Ferrari?
i had a 2001 boxster s which had rattle in dash problems the dealer had to take out the dash drive the car to id the rattles then reinforce a strut as well as insulate it. after the fix no more rattle.

I'd second that recommendation if it were a Toyota...
