First Gen Questin
Hi Everyone,
I have been reading quite a bit on this forum, and now have a question.
For many years I have wanted to own a Porsche. My mom had a 1976 911 Targa that I got to drive a couple of times in high school, so I got the bug early. Anyway, I am about a year from making my purchase, and have seen spy pictures of the next 911 model and since I have no history with the marque, it looks great to me!
I am not afraid of first generation models in general. I am usually an early adoptee of new technologies, and have had mostly good results with first generation vehicles (the one exception being chevy duramax...). But I have never bought German, and never the amount of money I'm anticipating. How is Porsche in the past been with their 911? Buggy? Should I wait a couple of years for the new and just get a good deal on the 2010's next Fall?
Thanks for any input!
John

Im sure the next Gen 991 will have some bugs even Porsche as great as they are , arent perfect but that being said these cars are really reliable. None knows if the 991 will be too radical of a change. Personally I saw pics of the inside and didnt like it. But to see it in person that could change easily. If I were you look into a GenII 997. I just picked one up its a unbelievable car, and look at the 991 and make a decision. Either way im sure you will not regret a GenII or a 991

I guess if the changes are quite a bit, then it will be better to get the 997 II.Thanks, I can hardly wait!

If this is your 1st Pcar, I would get a 997.2 you will score alot better deal on that. You will not regret that car trust me
, and then get a 991 in a couple years especially once you seen and like it. DO IT DO IT

Generally, in modern times, first year 911'shavebeen less desirable than mid-late years in a model range. 89-90 964s had some issues, 1995 993s are sometimes considered less desirable, as well as early 996s. Folks say to avoid 2005 997 as well. So - personally, I would skip the first year or two of the 991
If I may ask, where did you see the pics of the interior of the 991? Website? Link?
Thanks!!!
Thanks!!!

cars do brake from time to time, from lurking on those furums for 2 years now i cannot say they do brake often, my car had some minor issues and I am grateful it had CPO warranty as it costed me nothing to get her repaired.
as if to buy new one or used - i nver buy new very expensive cars as they do depreciate like crazy and I do not care about 'new car smell'. if you do care about the smell - get a new one.
as if to get DFI engines from new 997.2 generation or not - well, who knows. some folks do have issues with .1 cars, some folks have issues with .2 cars, statistic is too short for now to make any real fact based suggestion. try to test drive both and decide if power increase and new generation PCM in .2 car is worth extra premium for you
I dont like it but like I said after seeing it i might like it. Just think the interior now is clean and simple but a little luxury
Thanks for the link to the pics! I agree.....not sure if I like it yet. I'm sure it's going to be an excellent car, but I like the current 997.....more reminiscent of the 993 and earlier models (body style that is).
Ditto.....haha i might be biased but i think the 997.2 is the best Carrera to date. The 997 period to me is the best but the .2 has the Led lights that give it a edge. Plus I like the front bumper it reminds me of the 996 Turbo and C4S, and like you mentioned the 997 looks like the 993 which is a amazingggg looking car

The new 991 interior looks most like the new Panamera interior to me. Perhaps all the P-car models are going to this sloped center console.
My past two cars have been the first year of the new generation and I've been very lucky to have no mechanical issues. I owned a 2004 Honda S2000 and now have a 2005 997S. As for kinks in the '05 997, I've noticed the software that runs PCM has a bug in the clock - AM/PM switches at 1:00 instead of 12:00. Some have complained about RMS seal issues, but I've had no leaks after 38k miles.
Personally, I like to be the first behind the wheel of new models or if I'm buying used, get into the newest looking model that I can afford (and usually wait until current generation is affordable). With the 911, this car has been around 45+ years and is very reliable. Issues tend to get over exaggerated on these forums so I would think twice before jumping to any conclusions.
