Driving your Porsche in the rain
If you don't drive in the rain in Seattle you can only drive it for two months. I drive my 997.2 all year round (10K miles in 11 months of ownership). I paid for the car and am paying for it's depreciation/insurance coverage. Hence I feel guilty leaving it in my garage. I can understand people wanting to baby their Porsches but it is a shame when those same owners turn their 911s in for others to benefit. I never understood that.
. I find myself trying to find time to drive it whenever I get a chance so I'm not trying to keep the miles low so the next owner benefits.
The only thing that bugs me when driving in the rain, is getting water on the floor mats. Other than, a little rain isn't a big deal.
Just avoid the water-covered potholes (as mentioned above. Rims and tires ain't cheap.)

I will drive it in the rain but prefer to take another car if I know it will rain or it already is. I like to keep it as clean as possible (I don't like driving it dirty as it looks so good clean) so skipping a day here or there so I don't have to wash it as frequently is my reason. But I don't freak out if I have to drive it in the rain, it won't bother it and the car does just fine. I usually prefer to drive my X5 4.8is in the rain though, especially when in traffic. I like the ability to see more ahead of me in those conditions.
My car is winter stored since a couple of weeks - and will stay that way until April. But I have no problem at all driving the car in rain. The volountary off-season is because here in Sweden they pour out salt on the roads to keep ice and snow away. When the salt mixes with snow and asphalt dust (that is caused by the studded tires most people use), the car is not a pretty sight I tell you.
Not easy to clean and very corrosive.
So, those are my reasons for keeping my garage queen dry and warm during this season.

as a random note - tire and wheel warranty from porsche covers cosmetic damage now. not sure its worth it but on new rims it may be.
Yes, I have this and I have used it once already in the 11 months I've had my car. Excellent work and it was free! They even paid for my rental car while I had it fixed.

My car does not melt in the rain or snow..trust me I know that for a fact. I worry more about the year round hazards (especially after two of my co-workers had their cars totalled on perfect summer days) like texting, drunk driving, personal grooming than bad drivers during winters.
I will say this; I spend one hour every weekend to keep my 997.2 in pristine shape. I personally challenge myelf to drive my 997.2 everyday, yet keep it looking showroom perfect. So far I have succeeded very well.
