997.2 C2S vs 2008 c6 corvette - real world
To the original posters' question regarding "real world".... No, and C2S cannot walk a vette.....
Frankly a C2S could not "walk" A mustang GT, a camaro, an S2000, an M3, etc. A Jetta? Sure. Real world (i.e. on the highway, city streets) the performance difference will be affected more my reaction time, driver ability, traffic, etc.
0-60 times are ridiculous and unusable other than for a ****-swinging contest. But I guess a football game would be rather quiet without all of those exciting statistics too.....

The LS3 is a monster of a motor. If you do a cam, longtube headers, ported stock intake, and a dyno tune it makes almost 500 rwhp for about $1750. Hard to beat the bang for the buck. For the 0-60 it will be a drivers race in my opinion but the clutch on the Vette can take a beating. I'n not too sure about the 997.2s clutch. My 997.1 clutch seems like it wouldn't like and hard drag strip launches.

Guys - i do not want this to turn into a vette bashing thread
- I know that it can not campare to the superior craftmanship of a porsche -- at the time when I bought the c6 it was the best choice in terms of power for the price.... and the that is buying a new one so I got the added benefit of a warranty. I just want to know that if I decide to get an 09 C2S -- I wont pull up to a light and have to worry about another c6 beating the crap out of me --- like i said - its a bit childish but its an ego thing ... what can i say I'm immature
....
That being said I love that V8 -- puts a smile on my face every time I put the pedal down.... I guess what why I'm asking these questions is that I'm hoping I will get the same smile when I floor the porsche as well (C2S). I know it wont have the torque - but speed is speed .. so if it can do it as fast -- or even possibly faster than I will be happy.

I guess what I am saying is the 911 offers performance that is as good as the Corvette on average and you also get the refinement, style, etc. of the Porsche, but it sure comes at a price.
If both cars are manuals...why not compare apples to apples...price to price...which would be the Z06...which is still cheaper. Personally, I would choose the PDK over the manual..especially for a DD.
I did a small write-up right after I bought my 911 comparing it to my '06 C6 that I sold. It goes into different areas that you may not be interested in but I'll leave it to you to gleen out of it what you want.

Wow that is some write up ... you did a nice job, I'm not sure but it looks like you prefer the Porsche

I've had 4 Corvette's, my most recent being the 06 Coupe. I loved that car and the feel it had. I can't explain it but there is just something about driving a Corvette that is so amazing and addicting. I had that C6 for almost 3 1/2 years which for me is one of the longest I ever kept a car and it went to the dealer once for the extra fluid in the rear differential that you mentioned.
Otherwise it never had another issue ... well it did have the squeaky brakes issue but I was able to fix that myself with a product that costs under $20 from an auto store.
I haven't had my 911 long enough to compare but so far so good.
Also -- I must confess - i actually have a 2008 c6 but I want a porsche in the worst possible way...... but there is no way I am going to trade up only to be beat by the car I just sold (or traded in) .. yes call it childish but its just a standard I have. I am probably going to end up going with a 07 or 08 TT -- but i was wondering if a 997.2 could walk a vette - just a good piece of info to have when looking ..

I think you should wait on the Porsche - if that's the way you measure a car; just seems to miss the point of the 911 completely - I don't know, maybe you get one and get that "ah ha" moment.
"there is no way I am going to trade up only to be beat by the car I just sold " - just don't race faster cars, and there are plenty, and you'll be OK...ish.
My first track car was an S2000. It's a great car. Underpowered, yes, but a terrific package.
PT has it down pat in his review. Is the C6 a quick car...Yes. Is the C2S a better car in every possible way other than straight line performance...Yes. It does all come down to if you want the finer things or the brute force. To each their own.

I think that this discussion is all relative. When people start talking about corvettes they immediately state bang for the buck performance. Who's bang? Who's buck? In super car terms people look at Porsche as the bang for the buck super performance car, relatively speaking of course. Why you say? Because Porsche's are now being compared to cars like Lamborghini and Ferrari. Would you trade in your Porsche Turbo for a Ferrari 458 Italia? Basically the same performance, but could you really compare both cars? I would take the Ferrari given the opportunity. The same thing goes for the corvette - Porsche discussion. Given the opportunity I would take the Porsche. It's more then just about the numbers and price.
Whether it's a Z06 or a c2S there will always be faster straight line siblings .. the 997.2 Turbo S and Zr1 .
This youtube contest shows the Zr1 Vs a Pdk Turbo (not an "s" Turbo) . It's worth watching the entire clip as the Zr1 improves greatly with warm tires.
Now of course the Turbo was not an "S" nor are either of these cars modded .
