New Car Pricing?

I have read that the prices for a new 911 is softer for a car on the lot than for ordering one. Is this correct? On vehicles I've ordered I usually end up about 10% off MSRP, but in stock cars only about 5%.

So, when I make my purchase, what can I expect in terms of discount off the MSRP?

Thanks for your tips,
John

On the lot you are looking at 5-8% in my opinion. Cabs are softer as winter approaches. If you want a 2010 you can expect more than that.

The cars in stock are the best to negotiate on. if you order the car it's not only harder to get the higher discount but there's also the waiting . Most who order the car do so to get the exact specs --and that in itself can be very nice!!!

You will not get anywhere near 10% off an order unless you can find a dealer who is hurting and overstocked. Buying off the lot is your best option for a higher discount.

8% off MSRP should be minimum target. Unless you are feeling generous.

Thanks for the input. The wait has always been worth it because 1) I get exactly what I want and more importantly 2) I save a lot. When I got our new Ford truck, the dealers were getting full MSRP for the trucks on the lot. We ordered ours and it came to about $750 per week savings! That's how we dealt with the wait. Hahaha!

Now another question. If I purchase from a far away dealer, is it bad form to use a closer dealer for service? I'm just thinking that I might not find the car I'm looking fomr close by...

Sorry for all the silly questions.

Thanks,
John

Thanks! I guess the thing to do is find the one closest to what I want and make an offer!

See ya,
John

Usually the discounts on the lot are better because it costs the dealer money to keep and store the inventory. There is time presure on the dealer to move the cars off the lot. When you make to order, there is no inventory costs on the dealer and less incentive to discount.

Ahhh... I was thinking it in the opposite way. Too much tied up in inventory to give them much wiggle room, but in an order they have virtually nothing tied up in the car, giving more room for negotiation. I guess that only works when there are lots of dealers and lots of competition.

Thanks!
John

The service areas are a revenue stream for all car dealerships. I think they would welcome a new customer. I just brought in my 2009 Carrera S that I bought used to my dealer. The service department could not have been any better.
