I went the other route.

I tried several times to get the transponder out and realized I could not do it without risking serious structural damage to the key fob.

That's fine for the key you want to move away from.

Now you have to remove the transponder from the key fob you want to move to. Damage that, and you're out the cost of another key fob ($150 again).

My time is more valuable than that. I bought the fob and handed it to my Indy mechanic and paid him the $150 to program it properly.

Life is too short.
