Finally ..... Top Gear/History Channel.... anyone see it?
Loved the HALO race in the 4th show.... having worked with HALO jumpers in the past, just getting the scene where the Raptor and the jumper come across the finish line at the same time is incredible!
I really do not understand why people are pissed that the show follows its original. Lots of people love "The Office" and almost every US show is identical to the UK version that came before.
Are you guys really expecting the show to be Top Gear but not use the same gimmicks?

Has anyone seen Leno's videos on youtube? They are abysmal. The Tonight Show is popular because of the writers, not because of him.
I enjoy the show with Tanner and Rutledge, but the other guy is not that great. He will either get better or they will replace him. Although it is not as good as the BBC version yet, just give it some time. A lot of shows that we think of as classics started poorly (Top Gear UK, Seinfeld, Friends, The Office US, etc).

So the season is over. Any post season thoughts?
For me it got WAY better as the season went on. The “moon shine” run had some very funny parts. Tanner in the Morgan was nice. I also liked the three truck in Alaska. There were many other bits/races that I found myself enjoying a lot as well. It seems to be their in-between talking that is still lacking, quite badly too. Overall when compared to Top Gear UK (if that was a 100%) I would give it 85%. It is worth watching if you enjoy cars, but still nowhere near UK. I presume that things will change for next season with the off-air reviews they get. I hope they don’t do anything stupid.

Sorry, but have to disagree. I thought the truck sequence was ridiculous. The show seems to be aimed at 12 year olds IMO. True, some somewhat humorous parts here and there, but all pretty pointless and so contrived.
what was the point of that show? If you're in Alaska, at least show the scenery. I'm really interested if the Chevy or Ford won? Is this a low budget show, or what? Glad i only taped it. I'm only watching because I'm desperate and the F1 season hasn't started yet!
Oh, i guess I'm different, but i like the Leno shows. And at least he has cool cars. Beats watching $3000 trucks driving around for an hour...

Their "bantar" just seems so cheesy and scripted.... Mays/Clarkson/Hammond have the ability to make their "bantar" seem smooth, and almost like improv as majority of the time especially when all 3 are bs'ing around they don't seem scripted and almost like their saying whatever comes to mind with answers and responses.
As a guy (like many of you) that has watched the real Top Gear for years, the american series is just poor. But that's to be expected. The real Top Gear has cinematography that is as good (or better) than any show I've ever seen. And 3 hosts with the best chemistry of any show I've ever seen.
I refused to watch the US version at first, but I'm a car addict and couldn't resist.
The Alaska episode was something I liked, but mainly because I have a fully built 77 Ford off-road truck and I wanted to see how their very similar one did. I have to say, mine does much better.

This show is in its infancy and I think its a little bit unfair to compare it to the original which is now going on its 16th season. If you go back to the first season of the UK Top Gear you may change your tune.
Personally, I hope the US version continues and like the original, gets better as seasons change.

Fire the Yankee, just like Top Gear UK did with the fat car salesman from the first year. Mow the track so weeds aren't sticking up. Paint lines on the track. Have a "driver" (Tanner) critique and interview the guest and talk through the lap.. Get some writers. Then the show will be great. I watch and I am seeing some improvements but I think they are very unnaturally scripted. Can't wait to see it get better though!
