Okay to all you 997 lovers...

I have driven one at Bert Smith in St. Pete Fl. (an S also) and there is no way I will run out and buy one.. After driving the TT with stage 4, there is no way I could go back to a N/A car unless it was at like 500HP. Even the new 997 Turbo will have to be modded to get the performace the factory should offer. Even if it was at an additional cost many would buy it just because it would be under warrenty (not talking about X50, but some real meat).

Okay, so I'm spoiled... Oh, and I found race gas 100 octane today only 5 miles from my garage......

SO I DID NOT SAY THE 997 SUCKED... Just that I... again I, would not run out and buy it. If I had an older N/A 996 that I was looking to get out of I would look at the 997 for sure...

But it will not make people on the fence jump off...

No one said you should go out and buy one,but you said the , 997 was just a facelifted 996 and you are wrong about that.
If you knew more about the improvements and changes in the car and spent more time in it than a test drive, maybe you'd change your mind. You are spoiled by the power of the TT and I understand that, but give Porsche credit, they made a real step forward, the 997 is a great car, and all future models of the 911 will be 997s' until they evolve into 998s

We can agree to disagree.. I agree with the "Yawn" posted above and you do not. That's why they make different cars for different tastes.

I'm not saying it is not a great car... Just that it is not going to make 996 owners run out and buy one. All you have to do is look on the showroom floors and they are there.

well considering an S is not much off of lap times of a GT3< I would think that it is a good car. It is a pure vehicle, and that is what I love about it.

When the 998 comes out I can see the hopla if is a new car... Most people could not even tell the difference. Even the casual car person could see the difference between the 996 and 993...

It's not that I don't like it. But I will get excited when I see the new 998.... (I hope)
based on looks only, i agree with you completely. the 997 - especially the S - looks nice but it doesn't look the 2X as nice it costs over a 996 owner's car. the 996s have taken a beating and while the visual change is pleasant, it probably doesn't overcome that for many. the interior though is way better IMO. the regular 997 barely outperforms the 996 it replaces. the 997S though is great and it's the 911 porsche should be delivering as the base - for base money.

I agree they shoud use the "S" as the base car, drop the stupid PASM and lower the price to 75k and it will have the 19's and all.

Were on the same page here Ben...

A little off topic...

IMHO they will do the same thing with the Turbo.. It could even weigh more and not have that much more HP as we would all like. How many people mod the engine of a NA 996? Not many since there is not much left for the taking. I just wish Porsche would take this approach to the Turbo. Many of us would not mod with third party if we had the option to buy from Porsche even if it was more money... They should offer stage 1-4 as a factory option even if it's all bolt on.. It would be easy for the dealer network to support and if you wanted more power or did not want to spend what Porsche charged you would go to a tuner.

that's true, but porsche has to warrant the cars for 4 years and 50k miles while meeting all smog and noise laws (as well as trying to do what they can with keeping the gas guzzler tax down). tuners do not.

I know... They could plan for the warranty... And they would charge enough for the packages that for the few issues they would have in 50K due to the upgrades they would be covered.
We have several examples of cars that are just bolt on up to around 600 WHP that have been very reliable. Smog I don't know about, and I don't get to bad of milage. Not any worse than a turbo SUV...

Ben, Let me dream..... I don't have CGT to drive

maybe porsche got an exception on the turbo SUV knowing it would spend so much time off the road in service

I agree.

I would love to get a new cab, but that car will be near 100K and they might give me mid to upper 50s on a trade for my 03. I don't think it is worth 40 to 45K more. Just my opinion. Still I will be at my dealer to check one out when they get them.

That is my point exactly... Is it worth another 40-45K ??

Of course some won't even care about the $$ and just buy it to buy it..
