ECU Reset Question

I just recently added Fabspeed's x-pipe sport cats to the exhaust system on my 2006 C2S in addition to a BMC air filter in the OEM airbox. After install, I disconnected the battery for 1 hour to reset the ECU. When I re-connected the battery, none of my settings (radio stations, power seats, nothing!) had to be re-programmed. I have now driven the car 40-50 miles and still have some hesitation and 'jerkiness' that I didn't have before the mods. I'm wondering if I left the battery disconnected long enough to reset the ECU? Any thoughts on this issue greatly appreciated!

You definitely disconnected long enough. You must have something loose or not put back properly, O2 sensor maybe? Any CEL's?

I'm planning to check everything again tomorrow afternoon; but I think I re-connected everything properly. Good news is that I'm not getting any CEL's and the car definitely feels stronger and more responsive. It just feels a bit 'jerky', not as smooth as it was. I thought since none of my settings had to be reset after the disconnect that maybe the reset didn't 'take'? How many miles should it take for the ECU to adapt to the changes?

Technically the ECU is always learning (fine tuning/adapting). It's really not a matter of miles but variations in driving rpms & conditions. Typically, however within about 50 miles it's adapted to any changes you've made. Perhaps you have some bad gas?

That way my understanding. Is it even necessary to disconnect the battery?

It's a good idea periodically to reset and start fresh and I recommend doing it when making a big change to components such as exhaust or intake. Is it necessary? Probably not in the long run. It will adapt over time.

Good news...Went out yesterday afternoon to check my connections and was able to tighten down most of the exhaust bolts. Since I used new gaskets between the header flanges and sport cats, I was able to tighten the connections quite a bit after a few miles of driving. Apparently this was the issue as the car is now running smooth and stronger than ever!

Did you install fabspeed headers and sports cats > Are they inline with each other as such, or are the sports cats situated in the X pipe >?
I've seen the brombacher X pipe (real nice and $$$) with the cats in the X pipe.
Just trying to picture the changes you've installed.
Thanks
MOlar

I was about to suggest just that - this car is quite sensitive to exhaust leaks in any joints before mufflers.

I installed the Fabspeed x-pipe sport cats to the stock headers.

Thanks.
Fabspeed do not have sports cats / X pipe one piece for the DFI carreras - 997.2
Do you know of any other reputable companies offering the above apart from fvd brombacher.

Molar, sorry I'm not really familiar with many of the other sport cat offerings; although there are probably some folks subscribed to this forum that are. Or you might try Google. My interest and research was pretty limited to the Fabspeed and AWE offerings. Good luck!
