997.1 C4S vs C2 Gas Mileage
I'm on my second 997.1 C4S (Targa). Both had the same mileage. The best I've ever recorded on a tank was 22.5mpg on an all highway trip, light on the throttle. I usually get 12-14mpg in a mix of highway + suburban roads, in very spirited driving. (Using only 93 octane).
Just askin', Did you did reset the computer when filling up the first time and have you driven far enough that it's averaging your driving rather than the previous owner/dealer. That actually can take more miles than you might think.
My TT generally gets 20++ mpg on the road even at elevation and mtn passes. On the track, 7- 8 mpg is customary. When coming off the track it takes 100 - 200 miles before the computer figures out we're not going fast anymore and provides a representative reading. My ex - 08 C4S behaved similarly.
I'd do a manual calculation and go thru a couple of tanks before becoming concerned.

That's a good point. I did not reset it when I bought it but thought it should never get that poor of a gas mileage anyways. I guess I will need to reset it and do a few manual calculations before getting concerned as you said.
Thanks!
My computer read 14mpg when I bought my 997. After I reset it and drove my way, my mpg is up to 19. Spirited driving is common with me too. The PO drove in a hilly area and only in stop and go traffic.
resetting it will work as will adding air to your tires, i'm running 37 front, 40 rear. i like resetting mpg while going downhill and seeing 45mpg come up on the screen... you might try driving it everywhere in cruise control... i have a bad right knee right now so i am using cruise control 85% of the time and average 22.5 in town and 26 on the freeway until i get on it of course.
You can run up to 36/44 and you will get better mileage on higher pressure.
I usually get around 13-14 mpg on my C4S. I can get 17 in the city and 22 or so highway, but only if I take sedatives.

FWIW I find consumption on my 2009 C2S varies anywhere from 12 to 20mpg (US) on the same commute depending on traffic and how I drive. These DFI engines are incredibly sensiitive in that area to driving conditions and driving style. I often get 25-26mpg on the highway but as little as 8-9 on the track.
Overall though this car, which has now done 12,000 odd miles, is certainly more economical than my previous 997 C2.
