Dealers like to low-ball trade-ins to max out their profit. I too have a base Carrera, a 2008, that was "new" when I bought it. It had 9000 miles. I got it for $23k off sticker, which to me was a good deal.
Dealer will probably offer you about $40k in trade, which is ridiculous, and they will turn around and sell it CPO and ask about $58k for it. Big profit there for them.
You might be able to get that 997.2 for about $75k would be my guess. So the net difference is $35k. If you can get the delta to $25k and you're going to keep the 997.2 for 4 years or more, that's not too shabby.
Personally I like PASM, red gauges, red seat belts. Wish I had 'em on my car.

At $25K net OP ought to jump on this - sounds like the dealer is just postponing his day of reckoning - he's either going to lose $ on the 09 (or maybe he already took a writedown) or he's going to lose $ on the trade. I'm assuming OP doesn't have a payoff so the $25K is truely OP's net. I'd say flip it but then again no one has wanted to buy it so finding someone to flip to will be a problem. Sometimes waiting is the best decision - good luck.
I've been sitting on the decision. Dealer called me back today and reduced it another $1,500, so the net is now $23,500. Thinking of calling them back later in the week with a final offer of $22,500 difference.
Personally, in contrast to the prevalent opinions in this forum, I think $25,000 net difference sounds pretty tempting. Even thoough I know everyone is correct about the extensive options - that they don't increase the value of the car on the used market - the options in this case, such as PASM and LSD, are highly functional and will make the car fun and unique to own. My bottom line: newer car with DME and .2 upgrades, 3.5 years of warranty, increased HP and PASM/LSD....not a bad deal.
Keep your car.
Take $1,000 and have your car detailed (maybe buy a new set of oem wheels as well)...this will give the effect of having a new car. Take the remaining $21,500 and invest it. With this amount of money, you can probably cover maintenance and repairs for life (or at least a very long time). Besides, once the new car is a little dirty you'll wonder why you spent $22.5k for the identical car. The small difference between the .1 and .2 will disappear after a couple months of driving.

How about investing the $22,500 and getting a NG-911 when it comes out?
At this point, the devaluation on your car will be pretty linear since you are off warranty and outside the first few years of depreciation. So it is not a big risk to hang on to it.
If you do not like the NG-911 or if it is too expensive, I am sure there will be good pickings from 997.2's that get traded in for the latest and greatest.
In short, I would keep the existing car,
T.

after losing your Fabspeed stuff ?
Picked it up yesterday. No buyers remorse. Drove it last night and the dynamic corning lights actually work as intended. Took it on a leisurely curvey drive today with a GT3RS, GT3, M3, and Boxster. DI engine revs nicely, seems peppier, and got 27 mpg on intertate return trip. PSE sounds great, though not as raspy as the Fabspeed. Just right IMO. Love the bluetooth and touchscreen. Didn't know if I'd care for the red gauges and belts, but they are growing on me. I can tell it has the LSD when starting out while turning. Clutch seems lighter. Oil temp ran 25 degrees cooler than 997.1. Oil pressure seems low (2 to 4) but I've been watching the rpms. 997.1 always pegged at 5 under heavy throttle. Water temp 175 just like 997.1. Put on my clear side markers but they aren't tight. Perhaps the metal tension clips are sprung. Will change the 2 year old oil within the week. Assume drop in filter and crush washer are the same as old car.
One inner voice tells me to hold off another few years, hold on to the $25k, and get what I really want (gt3). But then there's that other inner voice that wants the shiny 997.2. Regardless of my decision, this is a solid net trade difference. The dealer is taking it on the chin.
BTW, how many miles on it.
$30k off sticker, 5.5 yrs transferrable warranty, and top trade $$ for my car made me pull trigger.
