Porsche to Consider US and China Production

Here is an article in Autoweek about Porsche considering US and China production to ramp up global sales: http://www.autoweek.com/article/2011...NEWS/110119907
I hope they get this right. Quality is hard and expensive to replicate.

If Porsche continues on the path toward high volume car manufacturing they'll lose whatever "exclusivity" they currently enjoy which has a lot to do with they price points Porsche commands. Might be OK for their SUV business but it's bad for their sports car business and it my be difficult for the buying public to seperate the two when looking for that special car. Good news is the air cooled Porsches will continue to appreciate in value. Bad news is I don't have one.

I believe Porsche has already confirmed production of a sub-Boxster and sub-Cayenne.
Porsche has already lost exclusivity. It is looking more like Audi/BMW now.
As far as domestic production, folks who buy the entry level Boxsters/SUV's and maybe Cayman may not care about US built. BMW does very well with its USA SUV production and I wouldn't see much difference for P-car.
VW is pushing larger production and I believe VW does not see Porsche as a truly exclusive marque. There will be much profit to be made by diluting the brand and realistically there are no other vehicles that can match 911 performance and reliability. As long as Porsche keeps "the pointed end sharp" with 918 RSR coupe and 911 GT's I will consider the brand.
However, McLaren will most definitely take "high end" customers away from Porsche (GT/Turbo sales). Its forthcoming line up will include a robust sub-200K car and an exclusive focus on high performance vehicles. Ron Dennis will not consider a McLaren SUV.

BTW what is it with Ferrari owners and their cars. I have never understood why such a competent vehicle is driven so little. What is the point?
