I didn't / haven't / won't. I don't understand why 5 passenger SUV's exist in the first place. AND are so popular. I get why you'd want a 7 passenger AWD SUV, and we have one in the household. But for 5 passenger, I'd have either a sedan or a wagon.

Having said that, if you forced me to pick a 5 passenger SUV, the Cayenne is the best of the bunch.

I started my Porsche experience with the Cayenne. I remember when I first moved to Portland, Oregon, in 2006. I attended the car show, and I got to check out the Cayenne in person. I sat in one and it was incredibly comfortable. I am 6'6", so having a little more room was good for me. That is how I justified getting a Cayenne for my first Porsche. The car served my fiance and me extremely well. It got us around in winter and to and from Home Depot. That car began my love affair with Porsche. I knew it would only be a matter of time until I had to have a 911! well, last summer, my fiance bought an SUV, so I went for the 911! While I loved the Cayenne, the 911 is everything I hoped it would be!

[quote=nolocontendere;3098542]Drive one back to back with a ML, X5, Q7 and Lexus whatever and you will understand immediately. If you still don't get it then perhaps you just don't understand the appeal of SUVs generally.[/quote
As I wrote in the original post, I want to buy an SUV, so this isn't a valid point. My other points were, is it really and SUV or just an SV. The low profile tires (especially), large rims and lack of inside space were my concerns aside from the high price tag.

A few years back at the Porsche Driving Experience, myself and two others were taken around the track in a Cayenne Turbo by Doc Bundy. He could drive that with 3 passengers faster than any of us were able to drive the 911s. The Cayenne is amazing - and if you put the right wheels and tires on, it performs very well off road.

the new Cayenne is hot !

they look great inside and out.. has a killer sound system..has a room for four and their luggages.. handles better than most coupes and sedans..

i understand the turbo cayenne can keep up with a 997 4S on the track easily..

gonna get me a S or the hybrid (in black or white) next year.
it will be great for long trips and short drives around town.

If one needs an SUV, and there are many reasons to own one, the Cayenne is the best of the 5-passenger lot, no doubt about it. Solid, and the best driving dynamics in an SUV. Heck, it performs better than many other sports cars.

Mine told me to go buy my first one when she was 8 months pregnant with our second. Bought it that same afternoon!

Good one, yeah, I was actually going to sell the 911 but figured a CTTS would be a good replacement for the over-all... Otherwise I might have looked for the S or CTT, it just so happened to work out good for me.. By the way she was also pregnant with #2 so that's why I was looking....

If you are looking for an out of the box true SUV then go buy a Land Rover. But as someone else said, with the proper Tire setup it is good off road. But will you really be needing that?

The lease on my Company truck was up and I needed a winter vehicle. My son suggested the Cayenne. I wasn't too sure at the start, I'm a tried and true 911 fanatic....Now after driving it into its second winter I have to say it's the best winter vehicle I have ever driven. Mind you, our winters in Montreal are pretty bad...Lots of snow and really cold!! Now I drive a Porsche year round!!!

I know there are lots of you that say drive your 911 in the winter too, but they just put too much salt on our roads up here!!

Bob
