08 997 vs 99 996

Fellow enthusiasts,

Recently did a tech refresh as in the title, plain vanilla except for Sport Chrono, 19" wheels, Bose, power seats. Some observations:

1) With Chrono off, car feels soft in mid RPM range. Throttle response seems to have a big flat spot in the middle. Any comments?

2) With Chrono on, all is good!

3) Car is definitely more modern in almost every way. Love the body styling, round lights and the interior upgrades.

4) Looking to possible upgrade the stereo to one of the Pioneer double din units. All PCM functionality is lost right? Are any key-specific settings lost as well?

996 was first PCar and I had it for ten years. Still running strong with 115k on the odometer but was time for a change. LOVE the new car!

Thanks for listening.

The main question is what are the unintended effects of using an aftermarket head unit instead of the PCM.

The throttle response difference between old and new must be the result of mechanical vs electronic throttle linkage. Just asking if anyone else had similar thoughts.

996 vs 997

I had an 03 and it was great. I upgraded to an 07 s. Very different car. Love the lines. I just bought a 2010 s and looove it. Dfi is really more responsive.

I'd like to hear your comparison of "S" vs regular, knowing the cars were different models. Price diff worth it?

Also maybe 2010 vs 2007.
