I was thinking the same thing as I read what he typed. Really...Typing in some kind of cyberworld. The irony of it.

Not really - it is not unlike the OT Forum - just more mom's and kids hang out and the avatars are strange photos of themselves rather than their cars.

For decades women have read romance novels and men look at **** . Facebook just adds some level of real interraction to fantasy .

OK, your "friends" are more "interesting" then, than mine are.

The last couple of FB posts I read were about the latest Stephen Colbert episode and another about discovering 54 new planets in other solar systems. I wonder if any of the new planets are inhabited by green Orion slave girls...let's hope!!! Racy stuff.

It’s only a matter of time before a major set of crimes take place against FB users who leave personal information about when they are going out of town and hackers use all the built in social engineering to collect the necessary information to clone all kinds of identities. This is pretty basic stuff, really.

Facebook is a great way to stay in touch with family, friends and colleges that aren't located locally and have busy schedules. Do people take it too far, yes, that's just human nature.

I value my privacy. In order to get a Facebook account, I would have to surrender too much personal information. There are no doubt considerable benefits to being on -- and inside -- Facebook but the price seems too high.

FYI... you can set a FB account and release no more than your name (could be an alias) and your email address, which can be kept private. I know several people who have FB accounts and their public profiles are totally empty.

FB is a public/open personal bulletin board. Think twice about what you post there for the world to see/monitor.

I have caught people several times taking pics of my car when I come out to it after work... They always just want to talk cars which I never mind.

Watch out !! When they think the owner (you) are not around they take photos sitting or leaning on the bonnet or front wheel arch wearing jeans with copper buttons

The off topic forum is only one section of the car forum and even in that section there are car related posts . It's different from facebook in many ways . In FB the main gig is social interraction. In the off topic section it's more of a place for an orphaned post topics that just don't fit into the various categoties of the numerous sections .

Even in the off topic section or in the regular folders a poster might share some tibit of personal information but unlike Facebook it's usually not the entire gist of the post .

OK, your "friends" are more "interesting" then, than mine are
The fact that both you and I have read at least 100 posts written by each other and yet both of us don't know much about each others friends shows the big difference bewteen a car forum (specific on topic ) and a social forum .

Actually.. the fact that you mention that you live a quiet and mature life actually has something in common with mine.

I too do not have a FB account. I run an IT company and I feel I am open to technology, but I just dont see a need for me to personally have one. I feel there are more CONS than Pros for me to open an account. In addition, I am not sure that I want those "Old Friends" to contact me after all this time.
Many of my Co-Workers mentioned some of the stories resulting from the FB communications and I dont think overall it is worth it too me.

I remember my 1st "research" effort using the WEB - trying to find the month with the least amount of rainfall in GA. Took hours and hours - slow dial-up (maybe 24k best case) - and just raw data to dig through. And that was in the early 90s. Can't imagine what 10 years earlier would have been.

Now I type "lowest rainfall month in Georgia" into Google - seconds later the answer. The future is great.
