Power to nonpower seat question
Power to nonpower seat question
Going from powered adaptive sport seats to nonpower sport buckets. Not familiar with the connections under the seat, but will there just be a connector/module left unplugged when I go to the buckets? Will this throw a code that needs to be cleared/deactivated by PIWIS? Thanks for any info.
I'm 99% sure there are two harnesses under the seat, one for the airbag system, one for the power seats. When you install OEM buckets, the new seats come with the control units under the seat, so it is plug and play.
With non OEM buckets, there is nothing to plug into. I know PIWIS can turn off the side airbag and even the seat belt warning system. Not 100% sure about the seat sensors though, but I know a few guys here have done the swap with no warning signs. I doubt Durametric can do it, you'll need PIWIS.
I'd PM Ray or one of the other vendors who sell non OEM seats to be sure.

I also know utkinpol has done it with Recaros:

For aftermarket seats, apparently, PIWIS needs to program the following:
Driver Thorax Airbag : No
Passenger Thorax Airbag : No
AWS : No (Automatic weight sensor for passenger seat)
Remaining passenger side air bags will always be armed (Passenger Air Bag Disarmed light will flash 3 times when car is started then go out)

Airbag harness plugs in, power/seat sensor plugs in.

Does not appear so.

So, the seat sensor utilizes the same harness as the power functions?

Just a few things that i recall as i almost did the swap a few years ago -
1) Unless they are ordered with the car the only color choice after the fact is black .
I have a black car so this was a good thing for me.
2) They can be installed . I don't know the technical aspects but installtion was presented to me as a simple thing.
3) They are not too cheap ... about 7K or so if i recall .
4) One forum member did post that on long distance drives they can become a bit uncomfortable . Maybe I am just getting old .. he was middle aged as well.
5) I fit in them with no problem . So does my girlfriend .
However .. I have driven with passengers who may not fit so easily . Something to consider.

I just did this swap last fall. Power/heated OEM seats for OEM GT2 Sport Buckets. Under the passenger seat, both connections match up. Under the drivers seat, we zip tied the extra connector to keep it secure. No codes were thrown, it was a very simply plug and play.
Just to be clear, these GT2 Sport Buckets are fully manual, no power whatsoever.

Thanks Jay! That's the answer I was looking for! What is the 'extra' connector under the driver's seat? Did you throw an airbag fault or did you somehow avoid it?
As far as the installation goes, you will want to disconnect your battery and let the car sit for at least 30 minutes before unhooking anything under your seats. This is where the airbags can become a problem if you start unplugging too fast.

Never tossed an airbag fault or code throughout the process. My understanding is that the extra connector under the drivers seat is for the power that is no longer needed with the sport buckets. Either that or for the heating feature, I'm not 100%. I strongly suspect it's for the power though....
