can you smoke M3 with your 997?

Ta da! So I think the answer to the OP's question is a difinitive YES. In that video even with a ECU/Exhaust the M3 still lost. But I dont think the straight line performance is the big sell point of a 85k PDK 911 anyways..
EDIT- there is also a video of a PDK 911 blowing away a 996 Turbo.

in that one video it didn't even look that close to me. 997.2S pretty much hands down. My 997.1 C2 would probably take the older, 333 hp M3, but certainly not the new one. Still, I love it anyways.
I have run my e46 m3 against many 993's and it is dead even. I think it probably has more on the top end as it will usually start inching by the time we have to shut them down, but hard to say as you just can't run them that long safely. A 997.1 pulls fairly hard on me.
I daily drove my 2008 C2S for three years and recently just got a 2011 C4S (both 6speed). I also own an e93 (DCT). I can feel the weight difference immediately when I get into the M3, especially since it is the drop top. I will admit though that the butt dyno tells me the M3 is fast. I'm sure my 997.2 is quicker, I doubted my 997.1 was.
What is not being noted here is what is described above. I have not tracked the M3, but have tracked the 997.1 and other BMW 3 series cars. My 997.1 was quicker around the track than the e46 M3's. I've never been on the track with an e90.
The m3 vs 911 debate will continue forever, but there are two things on the Pcar that are hands down superior to BMW, the breaks and the PDK. Otherwise both are very capable cars.
