Porsche Brotherhood
Good weather day in Boston!
The weather is nice in MA and I drove to work today!
Anyone here drive a Black 08 C4S Cab and works in the city?
I had my copilot wave (bad traffic otherwise Id wave) and the other Porsche driver smiled and waved back too... yea!
The funny part was when we (me and the unidentified Black 08 C4S Cab) pulled up flanking a Blue Audi S4 on both sides. The driver looked to the left and right and had this "huh?" look.
Whoever you are Mr. Black 08 C4S Cab... whats up!

- you see, it is all very subjective. p-car people are mostly OK I got to say, don`t feel dissapointed.
Most of my drive to and from work is on the Interstate, and even with little to no median, at 130 MPH or more closing speed it's hard to notice oncoming Pcars without getting whiplash. Otherwise, I wave to other 911's most of the time, and most of the time I get a wave back. Drivers of 356's never wave first, but always wave back.
But if you are interested in the "Brotherhood of the Porsche", you really should join PCA.

When I owned Vettes it was always a wave followed by a return thumps up or a wave..
I still wave at the Vettes and get a return wave from the Vettes I wave at...I think it messes with their head.
Lots of Corvettes but very few Porsches.... I'm usually surprised by a Porsche just because there are so few of them in my area and also it 's seasonal... but I always wave and usually get a response...

FWIW, I always initiated a wave in my 986 and often received a wave in return from other boxster/cayman owners but usually not from 911 owners. The snobby attitude often portrayed on here towards mid engined owners plays itself out in real life as well I am afraid.
I invented the 'thumbs up' and 'the wave".....I never applied for a patent so I never made any money from it... I consider it my gift to mankind...

I've gotten into some cool messing on a freeway type of deals, and gotten chased a few times by fellow P-car guys. Only disappointment was when the guys pulled next to me and saw that I'm 20-30 years younger. Somehow I felt rejected by that brotherhood. At the same time I've gotten chased by young guns in GTI's, STI's, CIVICS and Evos and other rice-burners just to get thumbs up. I've also met a bunch of cool down to earth guys of all ages who were enthusiasts.
I think it's a hit or miss, a lot of it has to do with the fact that the Porsche is more of an icon of luxury than it is of an enthusiasm. A lot of guys get it because others like it and not necessarily because they like it, which dilutes the essence.
I say keep flashing them lights at the other guys. This way once you get a "flash-back" you'll know who to pull over to chat with.

I guess there is varying degrees of enthusiasm in anything. But there is a vast difference between the faithful and posers. The faithful love the brand and the car to the core and posers just enjoy it merely for bling and status. I never much cared for posers in anything. All I know is that I love these cars and have so for many years (before I could even legally drive). So I will continue to flash and wave when I see fellow P-cars on the road -- I only expect replys from the faithful. Long live the brotherhood!

I used to get waves all the time in my old 1976 BMW 2002. Not so much in my 997.
This thread depresses me. I’m in my mid 30's and just assumed there would be a level of brotherhood among Porsche owners. Coming from the motorcycle community I can tell you this discussion has nothing to do with age. A low hands down wave to other bikers (Harleys and race bikes) is common and part of riding. I rider a Ducati, and always wave to others.
Could it be that a good bike is 10k and a good 911 is 100k? Is it all about the money?

I've noticed that our 911 gets fairly frequent waves from motorcycles, but people in other types of sports car wait to wave back rather than initiating the exchange. That sounds like an awareness of the price difference from the other direction. Rather than waves, we do get a thumbs-up frequently, and those include people in mundane cars and even pedestrians.
I suspect all these are cultural differences that have a lot to do with the area.

There are a bunch of reasons why the feelings of brotherhood might not be as strong outside the 6speed community but,I suspect this is a major contributer: When people drive a new 911, they aren't one turn away from spinning into a morgue anymore.
